I'll say it bluntly, anyone who thinks the PS3 is holding this game is back is completely wrong.
MMOs work on money. More money going into the game = Better overall experience.
The PS3 and also LOW-MID RANGE PCs (very important) make up a huge part of the subscriber base.
Rather than complaining that these people are holding back your experience, you need to realise that without their subscription fee you wouldn't have a game to play.
Why do people constantly make these "is the ps3 holding the game back" threads? First of all, the ps3 isn't the only thing that has problems. People with low end PC's have the exact same problem. So are they holding the game back as well? Or is this just another one of those blame/hate the consoles posts.
Tl;dr:
Limitations going forward will hinder the game no more than design decisions in general would. If anything poor choices in content design in general would do more than the PS3 not being able to render 890,000 flowing capes.
I honestly think they should drop the support of the playstation 3 people should of upgraded by now.
I know most people probably waiting on a slim playstation 4 but that's not gonna happen for a while and I know playstation 4 is out of stock a lot sometimes.
I mean look at FFXI, ps2 started to get black screens and graphics were removed you could see the square grid in the sky and they said ps2 had limitations but found ways to make it work.
Um what? The game hasn't even been out for a year yet and you already want them to drop the PS3 version? Personally, I have already upgraded to the PS4, but I can easily understand that not everyone can drop 400 euros on a PS4.
Good content doesn't necessarily have to involve graphically or computationally demanding scenarios.
Fun events and raids like BCoB certainly don't.
Fu, I love my PS3 in T9, makes it more fun.
Edit: I'm sorry I didn't mean to come off like such an asshole. ><
But basically, it probably WILL eventually happen that the PS3 is dropped, justb ased off of SE's official stance on the matter. it just might be a little while.

i think some people need to retake a look at the past, ARR was build on PC, but they did work them ass for make it work for PS3, because they did promise at the time of the V1 (2 years before) to port it on PS3.
now the limitation of the Hardware are a reality, make it like it's not true it's... stupid. about the fact they still support the ps2 for FF11, do i must recall you how FF11 is a niche game, when with FF14 they want to have a bigger mmorpg that will hold for 10 years, you can't do this by supporting a Hardware soo old. the technology evolve quite fast and the console like the ps3 will hold down the game in terms of possibility.
you want some example of impact of the game?
- every city was cut in 2 different area because of ps3, because it was impossible to make only one area for the console.
- the bag it's in 4 slot because the memory can't support more.
- the name have a pretty hard setup, one more time, because ps3 can't allows more.
- most of the space limitation come too from the ps3 limitation.
why do you think that the dx11 was pushed soo much back? because of the ps4, no, mostly because it will be impossible to justify a soo big difference between pc and ps3 graphism...
i don't say that people that want to play on ps3 are holding the game, but the hardware of the console is soo old that it hold down the game in many way. the decision to drop the support after the first expansion it's the only smart decision on the long term...
by the way, you don't get scam out, since you can pass for free at the ps4 version, not everything is bad.
ps: most of the information come directly from Yoshida while the beta of ARR, because we did ask why stuff are like this and that was what we did get as answer.
