Since it was brought up again...This is an aside, but reading the blurb on rogues they pretty much went with my Robin Hood-esque approach but gave it to the base class (whywouldyoudothat?!.jpg). The only way I now see THF being implemented is if they went and called it Treasure Hunter or something along those lines (considering SE by proxy owns the Tomb Raider franchise, they could also call it that) and built the concept and story aspect on...treasure hunting. And before anyone asks, no, I do not want to see Lara Croft in Eorzea.

Please for the love of god explain to me what you people think the difference between rogue and thief is. Cause the only contention seems to be that Yoshi didn't call it thief.
Lore wise, rogues were thieves once, but over time evolved themselves into the guilds and GC alliances of Eorzea, offering their skills in the name of their nation. To me it sounds like this opens a gateway to a potential Thief job. Meeting an NPC who teaches you the old ways before everyone went to being rogues.

Still does not answer the question.
This is how the past few weeks has gone.
Yoshi: "Hey guys I'm proud to announce you are getting the rogue/nin added to FFXIV in 2.4. Rogues are thieves that decided it was time to become members of society and form a reputable guild"
Rogues are thieves that decided it was time to become members of society
Rogues are thieves that decided
Rogues are thieves
Rogues = Thieves - warrent for arrest
Players 1-1048: "WTFBBQ WHERE IS MY THIEF"
So are you asking for them to add a class to the game that every city guard tries to arrest on sight?
I think they are asking for devs to add a JOB to the game that every city guard tries to arrest on sight.
To be honest this just reminds me about how disappointed I have been with the job system. As a class you have all these varying skills you can cross spec into your own personal build to use. Then you get a job and most of that is thrown out the window giving you a very limited set of skills to use from your primary class, very little from your secondary, and none if any from the other classes, let alone other jobs you may have mastered.

Lurking in the shadows, adhering to no laws but their own, they punish the wicked, pilfering their ill-gotten gains and delivering them to the downtrodden masses.Still does not answer the question.

Thought by many to be mere common criminals, some would say they play an unseen hand in maintaining order in the buccaneer's haven of Limsa Lominsa.
Again.. This still does not answer the question. I am starting to believe the only thing people are complaining about is the fact that it is not going to say Thief next to their name.Lurking in the shadows, adhering to no laws but their own, they punish the wicked, pilfering their ill-gotten gains and delivering them to the downtrodden masses.

Sort of, While I personally don't care either way. Its because hypothetically say Thief = Rogue in terms of design intention minus the name. That means they planned thief as a class which means even if they called it thief it would never see endgame content being a class and not a job. Meaning if they planned Thief being the class and Ninja being the job there wont be a Thief job coming, especially if Rogue has the "iconic" thief skills (steal or mug. I don't see the point in adding both steal and mug unless steal can steal something mug can't. Which never has been the case before)
Nor will it ever, because people won't accept rogues into their parties, they would accept ninjas, as "jobs are designed for party play."
So we get this watered down version of thief that at 30, will have people insisting on bringing ninja. It's no surprise folks feel cheated. In the end, not only do they not get to be thief due the devs, they won't get to be the artist formerly known as thief due the community.
When was the last time you played with a lvl 50 class and didn't think "that man is gimping himself and my pt."

not. at 30 you get one job skill, and loose many cross-class skill. generally speaking, jobs aren't worth going as, until 40+Nor will it ever, because people won't accept rogues into their parties, they would accept ninjas, as "jobs are designed for party play."

As ROG, you could use ROG dam buff, B4B, Raging Strike, to get +50-80% damage boost, internal release and straight shot for nice crit boost.
watered down version? you don't even know what skills they get. unless you feel that leaving out steal/mug=watered down.
what skills *designed for party play* does DRG get? or MNK?....SMN? As for NIN, we don't even know.
pvp...ppl usually go as mrd/gld/arc
mrd as ot/extra dam for t8-9.
for nin...kind of depends on what they can do.
