I'll be FF14's white knight for a day...

TOR and GW2 are gonna suck just as much as 14 during their first year. If they each happen to have a dozen epic 6 hour raids at launch and amazing completely ridiculously massive gear for everyone to wear so they can be that uber afk-superstar who sits in town after a raid, good luck on the longevity of the MMO. (Only said this because the NA community seems to be able to tell whether or not content sucks before it arrives, so I guess that means I can tell a whole game will suck before it's launched as well.)

Off-Topic: Yoshida says the NA community whines too much, I have no idea why.

On-Topic: This games fate is up to no one. What Yoshida is doing, right now, is the absolute correct approach to saving this game. There is nothing else he could possibly do to increase FF14's life after PS3 release.

If Yoshi P dropped 5 dungeons and 3 raids on us right now, just to shut us up. We would have the most useless content ever created. Something comparable to... every other MMO's content out there. Just like those R30 NMs, we would plow through them in a day, and never do them again. And if we ever did do it again, it wouldn't be for fun, it would be because someone else didn't have the gear. And we don't play games for gear, we play games for fun, the gear comes hand in hand w/ fun. BR'ing every boss and spamming my stamina gauge empty truely would not be fun at all... But atleast we'd get our gear quicker?

I'm not going to bash the reason people play games, we all play games for different reasons. Whether it's to get gear, pass time when school/work is over, or feel a different experience.

I'm just saying that Yoshida P, however long he takes, when making this game... He's doing it right. (Why is it right? The same reason it's right when I make any decision I choose to make. It's a gut decision.) And whether this game lives or not is entirely based on fate. Throwing 500 dungeons into this game in a single day, literally... won't make this game survive PS3 release. What Yoshida has planned is an idea, of a video game, a video game that will be addicting, even after 7years of life.

FF14 was an abomination at release, and still is now. There was a time when you could say, "If they just tweak this, add that, fix this, this, this, this, and this. This would save the game." But, that time too has passed. All that is left is fate. Let Yoshida do his thing... The game will be addicting, and yea we will grow 10-fold more impatient then we have now. And yes those who didn't grow 10-fold impatient probably moved on to a different game and never plan on returning. All that matters is that when the content arrives, and everything is adjusted, and PS3 hits... This game lives. And releasing content today or tomorrow or a month from now doesn't decide whether it lives or not, unless the content is exactly how Yoshida P wants it to be.

Time will tell, but we're definately beyond the point of if 1.18 is released this week, or 6 weeks from now, that will be the deciding factor on whether FF14 gets scrapped or not.

Lastly, if this game does fail hard on the PS3 release. It still won't be Yoshi Ps fault. He will have still designed the game that he wanted to create; people not wanting to play it is an entirely different thing.

Based on the things we've gotten so far, it's only natural that people will expect the worst, and the fact that things get delayed doesn't help the situation. The moment he starts delivering is when people will think otherwise.

I remember way back when Yoshida had just taken over he said the most important thing was to "regain the players' trust". I wonder if he feels that he's achieved that?

Kinda agree there. The lack of communication made everyone I knew assume the worst news for the patch, myself included. They all quit again and told me to let them know when the patch date was announced. After no communication and SE still posting tiny little pricks of information I feel like they are just trying to give people something to talk about and distract them from the lack of communication about the progress or a new estimated date, seeing as the old one passed a while ago.
    -----------

I don't really want an exact date, and understand that this patch is pretty massive and it is most likely intimidating to them knowing we are waiting and wanting this patch to be everything it should be with as few errors as possible. I can't imagine how careful they are trying to be. I welcome every change I have seen so far and got really excited about playing again. I would just like to be informed IF there will be a patch at all this month, next month or if I need to go find something else to do for a while. It is disheartening daily checking for updates and seeing silence. I constantly read all the forums and the Lodestone every day since release but this is my first post. I have been tempted many times but felt the negativity would totally drown me. I am more then happy to see that people still exist with something positive to say or that have any hope for FFXIV, and I feel terrible when I see that the loyal and helpful people that are left here, are still being left without answers, excited and yet not sure if they should be.

This time I might stick it out for a while, forget crafting, forget battle classes... and just go fishing while I read a book. Though that will eventually get old as well because I no longer have anyone to play with or talk to most of the time due to the large amount of people that left again until the patch. I just can't stand the massively annoying spam of the 1 button..... I detest being a mage class and it saddens me because I spent 8 years as a mage on FFXI. I really miss playing a fun mage class.

I will be pretty happy to get any information at all at this point about the news on the patch. I fear the worst right now and can't really get my hopes up... but I will continue to watch closely and hope for the best for FFXIV. I really do think it's beautiful and worth fixing. I just think communication with patches and delays needs to be better sorted. If people are going to get mad about patch delays anyway don't make them mad about lack of communication as well.

-- Btw hello to everyone. I read here a lot but new to posting. Sorry for the wall of text. <.<-

no if the game fails now it will be directly his fault. he took what the game had that could have been and has completely changed its direction. if the new direction fails that is his fault.

I don't think anything could suck as much as 14 at launch, lets get real. We didn't even have a way of finding items except to go and check every single person in the game. That in its self = epic fail

No, if the game stayed in the same direction it would have failed... Log in, look around. The game can only go one direction. Yoshi P could make a WoW clone right now, and it would fail. Or he could make a FF11 clone, and it would fail. Or he could make what he envisions FF14 will be. And it will be, what it may be. Saying it's Yoshi's fault for its failure is pretty inaccurate, since nothing could have been done to save the game in that case. Meaning you, or I, or God, or Blizzard, or whomever could not have saved it. It's no one fault. But if you're really, really, really, really, really, really... reaaaaaalllly looking to point fingers.

    It was Tanaka's fault.

I'm very real. FF14 blew ass, still blows ass, will continue to blow ass. Asking them to speed up content will only ensure more ass blowing.

Tanaka said yes to launch game when game wasn't even a game. Yes, epic failure on Tanaka's part. This isn't a Tanaka sucks thread or a how bad FF14 is thread, even though both remain true.

Game can only get better, and with every day we wait longer for content, the content is +1 day better then it would have been had they released it one day sooner. And sooner =/= game saved. Though sooner might mean you're still playing it over not playing it, it doesn't mean the game itself will be better overall. Which (I don't know Yoshi personally) I think Yoshi P seems to be going for. From what I can tell is, he doesn't really care if people choose to stop playing now. So would he... He's saying, with his own words, the PS3 release is this games last shot. What happens between now and then is moot. Even if the remaining, like, 50k (# picked from out of my head) players quit between now and then, all that matters is the game grows in popularity and has addictive repetitive gameplay when the PS3 release is dropped. What we will be seeing at the PS3 release is Yoshi's launch of FF14.

I suppose, if the game doesn't get enough publicity it could be Yoshis fault? That would override whether the game was actually good or not.

And you know that how? Please. I'm not saying they're gonna be great games but saying they're gonna suck is just as stupid. Not trying to antagonize you because I think TOR is gonna suck donkey nuts as well, but I'm just saying.

Source? You can't just say shit like this without a source.

So far he's done pretty much nothing. You think that's the right approach? 1.18 will be the first patch he's actually worked on from the start as well as it's content.

I'm gonna wait until then to actually judge him as a producer, but in all honesty teasing is with the producer letters and mentioning content he fully well knows we're never going to see is outright stupid.

Remember all that crap about the 7th Umbral Era? He started teasing us in DECEMBER, you realise it's been more than half a year and all we've got is some text only lore and some npcs with 4 lines of dialogue?

Remember player companies? Still not a single mention of those.

Grand Companies? Still text only lore and a whopping total of 3 in-game sidequests that barely explain anything and can be completed in a matter of 10 minutes. This was months ago.

What I'm saying is everything we've gotten from Yoshida so far is words words words. I hope 1.18 turns around my opinion on him and the dev team because as of now, I hate to say this, I really have no trust in his competency to make fact of his words. Mostly because he hasn't done any of that so far.

I usually dont reply to things like what you have said. But..

On your first two quotes it seems you did not even read past what you quoted, please read again.

I agree completely with SniperRifle, what I get from Yoshida and his actions, he is getting the game ready for PS3 release, he might care a bit what the current playerbase wants, but his focus is to have the game ready for PS3, not before.

I respectfully disagree. However if you are right he would be making a huge mistake because not keeping the playerbase that kept the game alive in the first place would be extremely stupid.
