I'll be FF14's white knight for a day...
TOR and GW2 are gonna suck just as much as 14 during their first year. If they each happen to have a dozen epic 6 hour raids at launch and amazing completely ridiculously massive gear for everyone to wear so they can be that uber afk-superstar who sits in town after a raid, good luck on the longevity of the MMO. (Only said this because the NA community seems to be able to tell whether or not content sucks before it arrives, so I guess that means I can tell a whole game will suck before it's launched as well.)
Off-Topic: Yoshida says the NA community whines too much, I have no idea why.
On-Topic: This games fate is up to no one. What Yoshida is doing, right now, is the absolute correct approach to saving this game. There is nothing else he could possibly do to increase FF14's life after PS3 release.
If Yoshi P dropped 5 dungeons and 3 raids on us right now, just to shut us up. We would have the most useless content ever created. Something comparable to... every other MMO's content out there. Just like those R30 NMs, we would plow through them in a day, and never do them again. And if we ever did do it again, it wouldn't be for fun, it would be because someone else didn't have the gear. And we don't play games for gear, we play games for fun, the gear comes hand in hand w/ fun. BR'ing every boss and spamming my stamina gauge empty truely would not be fun at all... But atleast we'd get our gear quicker?
I'm not going to bash the reason people play games, we all play games for different reasons. Whether it's to get gear, pass time when school/work is over, or feel a different experience.
I'm just saying that Yoshida P, however long he takes, when making this game... He's doing it right. (Why is it right? The same reason it's right when I make any decision I choose to make. It's a gut decision.) And whether this game lives or not is entirely based on fate. Throwing 500 dungeons into this game in a single day, literally... won't make this game survive PS3 release. What Yoshida has planned is an idea, of a video game, a video game that will be addicting, even after 7years of life.
FF14 was an abomination at release, and still is now. There was a time when you could say, "If they just tweak this, add that, fix this, this, this, this, and this. This would save the game." But, that time too has passed. All that is left is fate. Let Yoshida do his thing... The game will be addicting, and yea we will grow 10-fold more impatient then we have now. And yes those who didn't grow 10-fold impatient probably moved on to a different game and never plan on returning. All that matters is that when the content arrives, and everything is adjusted, and PS3 hits... This game lives. And releasing content today or tomorrow or a month from now doesn't decide whether it lives or not, unless the content is exactly how Yoshida P wants it to be.
Time will tell, but we're definately beyond the point of if 1.18 is released this week, or 6 weeks from now, that will be the deciding factor on whether FF14 gets scrapped or not.
Lastly, if this game does fail hard on the PS3 release. It still won't be Yoshi Ps fault. He will have still designed the game that he wanted to create; people not wanting to play it is an entirely different thing.
