The way I understand it, it creates a use for even materia I's.
Would just cost more in Alexandrites than by using materia IV's.

You're also assuming that Alexandrite use is based on per Materia and not per Stat on the Materia i.e. it could be that you need 4 Alexandrite for a materia that has DET +4 and 10 Alexandrite for a materia that has DET +10. Speculation at this point regardless since we don't know the exact details.

Being able to use all grades of materia unrestricted until you reach the cap would be great.
eg. I can use 3 x II materia instead of absolutely needing a tier IV with no penalties provided the correct amounts of Alexandrite are supplied.

IF that is the case (and let's hope it is)... people flocking to the market boards buying all the inflated IVs might actually just be burning the gil?
