Novus weapon upgrade system findings

Making this thread so that all the upgrade quest/system/info etc is easy to find for everyone. And saves me searching all the forums during class lol

Will update OP with important info as it gets discovered.

did some of the later pages with info. someone can grab rest. gotta work.

Weapon Info-
Animus = 49
Novus = 51. Lodestone DB shows them with increased weapon damage.
Stats with a 44 cap (11 materia/tier)
Stats with a 31 cap (7/8 materia/tier)

Could someone who is working on Thyrus Novus screencap Piety cap for me? Thank you. (Also Determination please)
PIE = 33
DET = 31

Curtana and Holy Shield are the exception here, because they have different caps compared to a full weapon, so they maybe need less materias in order to get a higher tier.
Curtana stat cap is 53, Holy Shield is 22.

Getting started-
Quest starts at Jalzahn in North Shroud, you have to go talk to the materia people in Central Thanalan. You have to buy 3 Superior Enchanted Inks from Rowena for 500 Allagan Tomestones of Mythology each to obtain your Sphere Scroll. Sphere Scroll has to melded to the stats you want on your Relic Novus, up to 75 secondary points in total have to melded before you can obtain your novus. To meld to the sphere scroll you need to get Alexandrite, which can be obtained from

1) Allagan Tomestones of Mythology, buying Mysterious Maps from Rowena and completing them gives Alexandrite
2) Completing FATEs with Animus Equipped

Sphere Scroll melds CAN fail, they start with 100% success rate but will drop as you meld more materia. Once you have melded all the stats you can hand over Animus and Scroll to obtain your Novus

Need 1500 Myth right away in the quest (more after that ?), then we need materia, only we don't know what materia works, and how many.... With the prices, I won't be able to afford it. This turning out to be quite a kick in the balls.

Getting Alex-
Maps which cost 800 myth each./Daily Map
Fates with Animus weapon equipped.
The Alexandrite is always given to the map holder.
The expert Roulette is just what the quest wants you to do to get these new maps. You pick up the quest, you do the roulette, you get the map as you hand in the quest(think weekly primal kills quest). And yes you must wear your animus to get Alexandrite from a FATE.

Fuse Findings-
When infusing at less than 100%, I'm pretty sure the dialog box reads as follows:

"If the infusion fails you will lose the materia but not the alexandrite. Proceed?"
I'm on infuse 5-6 now for Det

Infuse 5 is at 70% Grade 1 Materia, won't let me use Grade 2 (failed 2 times)
Infuse 6 is at 60% Grade 1 materia, won't let me use Grade 2 (failed 1 time)
Fuse 11(12) Savage Might Grade 2 Chance 88% Result +1 Det, Fuse 12 will require another Grade 2
Infuse 12(13) Savage Might Grade 2. 80% Chance. Results: +1 Det . Fuse 13 will require another grade 2.
Progress on shield:
infusion 1 Battledance I 100%
infusion 2 Heaven's Eye I 100%
infusion 3 Heaven's Eye I 100%
infusion 4 Heaven's Eye I 80%
infusion 5 Heaven's Eye I 60%

The prices of materia are gonna skyrocket as people buy up (and pay through the nose for) the needed Accuracy, Critical Hit Rate, Determination, Parry, and Piety materia so they can get the stats they want...

I'd say now might be a good time to start doing spirit-bonding parties again, but that's probably what everyone else is thinking, too...

This system better not take regular materia it better be some kinda of new special thing. If SE turns the novious from a RNG/work into a pure who has the most gil fest it defeats the purpose of the weapon completely. If RMT tells weren't bad enough before the update just imagine now, gil being more important then ever and materia is going to be through the roof expensive forever now. This sounds like a gill sellers dream and a players worst nightmare.

I hope you're right! If I had known I wouldn't have bought all those silly outfits and a house for my last 2 mil gil until aafter I got the materia I needed.

Well people were complaining how gil was useless. Now people will buy more crafted items for spirit bonding and more materia for their relics. Put some life into the economy.

I'm wondering if you have to meld a rank IV. Not sure the level of the materia matters, just the type. You put determination and critical hit rate and it automatically maxes it for i110.

Until we know how it works as in can you only use a certain amount of materia only or is it up till a cap. Who knows if we will need tier 4 or can use a bunch of 1,2,3s
