The problem is that when you tell someone nicely how to do something you generally get ignored because "I want to play the way I want to"

The problem is that it's not being told nicely. People just insult you or rage when you don't play how it is suposed to be/that other player wants, and expect you to immediatedly play properly, becoming an expert in the blink of an eye. Constructive criticism always helps to improve, but bad mannered complains without explanations won't.
