1. FFVIII - The characters & story
2. FFVI - The ending
3. FFVII - First FF game I played when it released in 97.
Honestly I enjoy them all & have played them all, but those are my top three.

i was 8 my brother was playin it we took turns and we both cried whn aerith died, gaming was one of our pass times as kids

I wonder why so many people seem to love FFVIII. The character setup and combat system sucked too much for it to be good to me.
Hands down I would say 9 is my absolute favorite.
Don't get me wrong, every FF title holds a special place in my heart, but the story was the best thing about 9. Each character had a well thought out backstory, and unique personality. It's a shame some of the other titles did not focus so much on these aspects, made me care less about the characters (8 and 12 come to mind).

people have thier own tastes,i can agree the whole draw system was annoying, but the character setup was superb and the battle system was as well, specially the summoning the way they did made it feel as if they grew with you plus u had to use thm carefully in combat since they would take hits while u are castin em it was quite fun and strategic
I don't think Rinoa was Julia's daughter, that would mean the Squall and Rinoa were partaking in incest..FFVIII - I cried, I cried I cried I cried
Laguna and Julia, Squall (son of Laguna) and Rinoa (daughter of Julia) all bundled up in that one scene.
Did you mean Ellone?

Tactics Advance 2 is my favourite of all time. I love everything about it (and am dying for a sequel on 3DS that will never come...)
Of the main series, it's a toss up between XII and X-2 I guess. I loved the characters and battle system in both. FFXII has the better story, but no title is as fun as X-2.
I also like X, the XIII trilogy, IV and V.
No. Remember Laguna loved 2 women. Julia first in Deiling, but due to circumstances they could never be together. She moved on with General Caraway and had Rinoa
Laguna met Raine in Winhill, fell in love, and had Squall
Should read this: Remembering the Orphan: FFVIII
The writer takes a critical in-depth look into VIII and you may look at the game differently after reading it
It's essentially a character study

Good call, shows how long it's been since I've played it XD
Guess it's time to dust off the PS2.

V has become my favourite. Not for character or story; but I'm at the point where I've played each game enough that I'm not really interested in that part of the experience anymore. Rather, V's job system and its incredibly well designed bosses are basically a pinnacle of RPG gameplay design that's borderline infinitely replayable. When you realise that you could beat the game with basically every single party you can imagine - and often not through grinding, but by using your head and really knowing the game inside and out? Not by just brute forcing, but by actually using the tools and options that each class comes with? That's an incredible game, to me, and I still replay it regularly. (I am looking forward heavily to the Four Job Fiesta next month!)
Bravely Default tried to replicate it, but then collapsed under the weight of its own system about halfway through.
