Why you decided on your race (lore perspective)

We all decided on our toons for specific reasons, be they stats or just appearance, but from a lore perspective what was it that drew you to your character. For me it was the idea that the Hellsguard aren't nearly as numerous, that they have a deep warrior culture, and that said culture developed far away from the standard Sea wolf Roe's.

feel free to share your reasons

Well, I admittedly picked Miqo'te on the sheer aspect of 'yes cat race I like'...but I went for Seeker over Keeper because I thought the Seeker of the Sun naming conventions were just plain fascinating! I still do, really...the clans, the Tia/Nunh structure, the way that all works...really, it's super interesting! I'd love to see more tribes than just the U, really. I wanna know if all of them live somewhere in Thanalan or if there are some tribes in other places, like La Noscea. It's just...cool! I love my Seeker girl.

On a side note, now that I know more about the lore, I am endlessly fascinated with Duskwights -- I'd probably have picked a Duskwight if I hadn't gone with Seeker. I soooo want to know more about the Duskwights -- it's so interesting that they're so discriminated against, and that so many of them turn to crime...it's like a vicious cycle -- the discrimination makes them discontent and they have to turn to crime/illegal acts because no one will help them or give them legit work, so they look bad as a race and the cycle continues. It's really interesting and I'd love to play with Duskwight character someday~!

When I have to choose between a human, a giant, a midget, and a cat person, I will choose the cat person.

Well originally when I first created Enki in version 1.0 I wanted to make her like my FFXI character who was a mithra with reddish-orange hair, but I chose Seekers of the Sun for her clan (and hence Azeyma as Enki's guardian accordingly), because I felt the Sunseekers' devotion to Azeyma the goddess of the sun was the closest to a 'goddess of light' like Altana was in FFXI (whom my FFXI character was a devout follower of).

It should be noted at 1.0's launch very little information was given lore-wise about Sunseeker culture other than their worship of Azeyma and the fact they were a diurnal clan (hence naming traditions hadn't been sorted out at that stage and thus the reason for Enki's non 'traditional' name).

So yeah, I basically chose Enki's clan and guardian story-wise based on my FFXI character. It's something I don't regret either.

Started out Midlander Hyur, didn't like how puny she was so I used the Fantasia and bumped her up to Highlander. Have not regretted it since.

Originally, I also was like Enki and modeled her after my Mithra from FFXI. My main reason for choosing Keeper of the Moon over Seeker of the Sun was mostly based off my real life cat. She is very secretive, aloof, and independent, and that description grabbed at me. That and their eyes. Seekers have those cat-eye slits, while Keepers don't, which is what my cat normally looks like. :P

But even lore wise, I think I like the Keepers more because they are more mysterious, and keep to themselves. They're matriarchal, much like Mithra in FFXI, and we don't see so many of them around.

I wanted to be a male Miqo/mithra since XI. When I could finally switch to Male MIqo, I jumped at the chance. I picked a Sunnie because I like that they are diurnal, they have classic "cat eyes" and I like their skin tones compared to Moonies. Lu is from UD, so I wanted to give him a tan. 1.0 Lu was a Lala, which is what I played in XI. I gave cat Lu heterochromia, one eye is brown (my real life eye color), and the other eye is green in homage to my favorite FF character - Aerith =D

In any RPG where you can select a race, I choose the most non-human race there is. Animalistic is best. Humans are too blah to me, I'm a human in real life. Plus, the tail is kinda awesome.

    Great background stories!~

Mine is not dissimilar to other people in this thread like Enki! I played FFXI for a long, long time and was very attached to my character Kyan, a hume. When FFXIV 1.0 launched, I recreated Kyan Daralis (a last name I gave him in XI) as a Hyur Midlander, and customised his birthday to be the 6th day of the first month - same as my IRL birthday - making Halone his guardian as she represented the first month of the year in Eorzea, according to the lore present.

For a variety of reasons, I stopped playing.

Before 2.0 started, I was actively lurking on these forums and keeping tabs. Because I was unable to do the quests and things at the End of the Era, I decided that there was a great opportunity for Kyan to be 'reborn' to. In beta testing, I messed about with a variety of races, but it was the Sunseeker Lore and my XI desire to play a male Mithra, plus the aesthetics, that lead me to Miqo'te. Even my character's name is a homage to "Kyan" - originally in beta I made it K'yhan tia, changed completely at launch to L'iaoh tia (viper was a much cooler totem animal than the hipparion!), then server transferred to Aegis to play with friends which made me have to change my name, to the current "L'yhan nunh".

I would play a Roegadyn if I weren't a Miqo'te, as I feel there is a depth to their lore as well. I just do not like their aesthetic as much as the Miqo'te.

Well, I'm pretty much a hermit, and I work overnights, so the nocturnal and reclusive Keepers of the Moon just made way too much sense for me to go with anything else

It would work if you could just add an apostrophe after the E!
