Using the old census on character gender the distribution its 51(M)/49(F) for Japanese players and 60(M)/40(F) for NA/EU now these statistics are relatively outdated as they were taken from August to September last year. The problem here is what % of people play a character with the same gender as they are. I would also assume that a larger percentage play the same gender as they are in the western world which is what leads to a 60/40 split towards males as they are the majority.

I remember back in the FFXI days that a very large percentage of Mithra were male players so much so the phrase Manthra became popular. So I wouldn't be surprised if the same follows on to the Mi'qote.

Following these rules when 60% are male characters and I would hazard a safe bet that atleast half of the female characters are played by males and discounting a smaller percentage of males played by females (as females are the minority) you could be looking at something as high as a 70% playerbase of male people. Making it completely justified to assume someone is male until corrected since you have a 7/10 chance of being correct.

Now furthermore you would have to be an extreme minority as a transgender since you are already a minority within a minority group. It also springs up further debate in since you are transgender some people might think it is still more factually correct to refer to you as your birth gender so referring to you as a "he" is still technically correct.
