But how do you suppose that males, who overwhelmingly dominate the most popular genre and another of the top few genres, are only barely hanging on to a majority overall? It's because other genres, like say RPGs for instance, have more female players. Face it guys, you're the ones in the minority here

A survey from EQ2 revealed that female players were 21% of surveyed players. Participating in the survey was anonymous and rewarded with some event ingame item.

So while you might be right that sports and action games are male-dominated genres. Those genres DIDN'T EVEN EXIST in the 1980s. It was platformers, prototypes of future RPGs, adventure games and games with guns where everything can kill you, also beat them up and cheap (as in 'life is cheap, no/few power-ups, you die in one hit') shoot them ups.

When people talk about "real gamers", they usually EXCLUDE the "dudebros" who only play sports games and CoD. And the other genres are still male dominated.

Oh and btw, trans people are overrepresented in gaming, especially MMOs, compared to their population ratio (which is only 0.2%).

As it's been stated, thanks to 4chan, everyone on the internet is male unless proven other wise. If You don't want your feelings hurt by people incorrectly referring to you as one gender or the other, then you should pretty much just stay off the internet. i know it sounds dickish to say that, but getting you're feeling hurt over something so common is rather ridiculous. And to be honest, with how stupid the younger generation of males is, and the way they treat women, is it better to be told to "get in the kitchen" over and over, or be called he by mistake?

MMOs are still majority male. Women make up ground by dominating in games like The Sims and Farmville, but they still don't touch the male numbers overall. Not that this is something they should be proud of it they did.

FYI, you're facts are rather wrong. Studies were done that show over 40% dedicated video game players(this means games like CoD, LoL, MMOs, non facebook/android games) are female. So you wanna think again that the number of women don't touch the number of men.

Anybody else miss those days when people played videogames to...you know...play videogames?

For years and years people were just avatars on your screen with funny names, not guys or girls, just people.

Then came the dark times, then came the grrl gamers.

Suddenly in every game you played, chat was littered with "hah you got killed by a GIRL, btw im a GIRL don't hit on me silly boys!" while they tried to prove themselves 'better' than male gamers, not that anybody cared to begin with.
