You must simply attack those Hot Pockets sir, any chance of putting up a video of you eating one? Pretty sure it's something I shouldn't see, but the curiosity in me wants to see how reckless you become with those things.

    newflash folks:

you are not entitled to join a group simply because its listed on the party finder

if you join a group under false pretenses or do not adhere to the standards set by the party leader your removal from the group is entirely justified

so far the only arguments ive seen from the anti loot locking camp are

"its no fair for people to lock loot because i need that loot too and now i cant join their group"

which basically implies that your needs are more important than theirs and/or you are to socially incapable to have open discussions about loot and/or you are incapable or organizing and forming your own farming parties

    or

"well some people abuse the system and roll on loot that they shouldnt have"

this is a problem with the person, not the group or the rules. these people should be reported and blacklisted for breaking loot agreements and will be dealt with by SE.

its unfair to punish or limit legitimate farming parties based off your selfish desires. and it is also unfair and selfish for one person to join a group of seven and try to change the way the loot agreements should work because they dont like the terms. IF YOU DONT LIKE THE TERMS SET IN THE PARTY FINDER THEN DONT JOIN THE GROUP

there are multiple options in the party finder to set up groups exactly how you want them. if "multiple runs for loot" isnt an indication of farming for the sole purpose of greed as an acceptable practice then SE would not have given us that option.

i suspect that the people that oppose loot locking are also the same people that oppose "xp only/clear only" parties. im also fairly confident that their opposition to such parties is not as altruistic as they would like us to think. it really boils down to "im not good enough to farm content and i dont have the social skills to make friends and im jealous of the people that are"

Yes, a rift is exactly what is sought. A rift between people who aren't dying to mechanics and those who are, so those who aren't can get the smooth clears they are looking for.

I might be going too far with that statement, but people that do this elicit nearly the same level of disgust in me as the idea of a dictator. Might be my ideals given where I grew up, who knows.

I firmly believe this kind of behavior is morally disgusting.
It's selfish, sure. Being selfish isn't a bad thing all the time though. I know a couple of people that are too kind and share too much to the point of their own detriment. And what do you tell someone like that? "You need to focus on yourself and what you want, and surround yourself with people who are supportive of your goals." That is the nature of these parties. That being said, what is more selfish? To think a total stranger should be worrying about what you want, or that they are more worried about what they want?

    TL;DR: Hypocrisy.

EDIT: Feel free to refer to this in the future if you ever need an example of how to get your point across without berating people (something a lot of people see as disgusting behavior).

Perhaps not quite all the time, but it certainly is when you join a party in a multiplayer game.

Once they join a group with you, of course they should be concerned with what you want, just as you should be concerned with what they want. That's the whole point of having group content as opposed to a completely single-player game. Whenever you're part of a group, your goal is to ensure that every member of that group gets what they need from it. If that's not your primary goal, then you shouldn't be playing a mulitplayer game.

The Party Finder has an advantage in that players can specify what they want in advance in order to ensure that everyone's goals are compatible with each other's. In the OP's case, he reserved the caster body to himself, but if nobody else in the party wants that piece anyway, then it's not harming them to let him have it. (This is assuming that in return he'll pass on whichever item each of them most want. Concern for your fellow party-members goes both ways.)

I only care if they are in my fc/ls and if I like them.

This sounds like a linkshell or Free Company to me.

Personally I feel one's own goals can be accomplished without imposing restrictions on who can and cannot join. If the leader lets someone in who wants the same item as them and the leader loses the lot, oh well, they had a fair shot. The problem is a lot of people will lie about not wanting it to join because they have to. They will follow through with this lie to be polite. But deep down, you know they feel cheated. It isn't a nice way to treat people. No harm no foul if the person truly had no need for it, yet that's not what I take issue with.

Yes, some people are far too selfless. But it isn't selfless to let someone have a fair shot. It's just expected.

I honestly don't feel I was berating anyone. If you got that impression, I'm sorry, I had not meant to offend. I'm just expressing my raw opinion on how I feel about people who find this tactic acceptable in the public space that is PF. If you have a group of friends, lsmates, or FCmates that don't mind conditions like those to run with you, feel free, that's great. But it tends to offend people when they see such things in PF. To me it's like they're saying, "I want to use you to get this."

Let's be honest, though. Really. I don't think any of us are changing eachother's opinions on this tonight.

You should really learn more about how to use these forums, that quote is not from me, it is from Niwashi.

The reason I've see loot locking come up is for people who are playing one class (tank or healer), but main a DPS and would still like a shot at loot for their main class. Most cases there should be no problem with everyone letting that tank/healer have the item for their main class, especially since they are doing a favor to the group by switching to a needed role.
