a lion's share (a little more than a third) of our sales are good players who don't die to mechanics.

after being stuck on titan ex for months and apparently not having (enough) friends or luck with randoms to win it legit, i probably start saving gil so i can atleast advance with the quest , its not like i dont want to earn it , its always 2-3 hours waiting in PF to even fill a party , then some person leaves after few wipes and party disbands and hours of party finder waiting again , if i used the wasted PF time to earn gil ill probably be done faster with it
just wanted to share a different perspective of a person who has the only choice of being stuck or pay
I bought a clear service once during the early weeks of Titan EX. Why? Because I want a group of people who's competent enough not to fail the said dungeon.
Did I get carried? Ofcourse not, I didn't die in that run.
IGN: Yvaine Isaulde
World: Tonberry
"Mercs" have been in most MMO games, and I doubt the trend will ever die out. So long as people are willing to pay for it, the market for it will exist. If they really bother you, as mentioned prior there is a blacklist function.
Mind you I am not advocating or trying to encourage it, just think it's a bit silly to complain about it.
The people I hate the most are the ones who buy gil from RMT then use that to buy carries.
True. I banged my head against Titan X for weeks and couldn't down it to save my life. I got to a point where If I had 600K to buy a run, I would have. Luckily, my FC was offering to get some people through it and not only did I get my win (I only died because at the very end, they finished Titan instead of breaking my Gaol), but I helped them with an additional run for another FC member (didn't die that time at all).
So, just because you have 7 other people that know a fight, doesn't make you more skillful than winless people. It just means that you have 7 other people that know the fight.
It's so much easier and cheaper to just make your own PF and kick people for repeated failures than to give in and buy a carry :\
After 3 weeks of failures, that's what I did. I even made sure to indicate that rule applies to me too, and the first party I made beat Titan EX in 2 tries.
I refused to buy a carry no matter how frustrated I got, because I'm a firm believer that if I have to buy a carry for this to win, then that's going to be a trend for future difficult challenges. At that point, it'd be clear that this game is not the right game for me.

Short term fix - Buy runs.
Long term fix - Join FC/LSes, make friends, etc.
You'll get your shiny but it doesn't matter. You end up being a repeat customer and pay a gil subscription. Then you begin to become a player that doesn't put any effort into doing things anymore since there's an easier path. Then games get dumbed down and turn to f2p/p2w to try to cash in.

Then you get people bitching about elitist PF groups who kick people who fail at mechanics. There are plenty of sour grapes to go around! It's so much easier and cheaper to just make your own PF and kick people for repeated failures than to give in and buy a carry :\

I guess the only way to play the game it to be a bleeding heart that gives up all their time to help anyone and everyone progress for 10 hours to get one titan ex kill.
There is a lot of truth in this statement. We have a client list of repeat buyers. We sold to a guy last night who has bought at least 15 primal runs before. He is good enough to join an FC and run with a static; yet, he is more than happy to pay us to run his toon and his son's toon through content.
