The game desperately needs a listing fee. Every other MMO that I can think of that has a relatively stable economy has one. XIV desperately needs one. Either that or we need to go back to the wonderful "blind pricing+bid system" we had in FFXI.

The market boards are unstable on high end goods because it costs nothing to continually undercut each other. The cost of Taffeta Cloth on Gilgamesh has dropped significantly because of this over the last few days. People continually undercutting each other by a few thousand until someone gets fed up and undercuts by tens of thousands just to get out of the market.

If it's the Taffeta/Light Steel/Mindflayer stuff, people are finally getting their retainers to 50, and the return rate isn't that bad. Which means that market is going to be incredibly unstable for the coming weeks as the supply is going to outstrip the demand at multi-100k prices.

That picture doesn't actually tell us anything about the situation because it's just the market-listing, not the sales history? Plus you cut out what the item was so we have no general context for if this price is reasonable or not.

For all I know 499k is actually pretty high on your server for . . . whatever this item is . . . and everyone else listed is incredibly over-priced and had no chance of selling.

On my server, most 3*s are still over a million...and NO ONE is buying them. Have a few 3* crafter friends complaining that they aren't selling, but refuse to lower the price...

If they were 500K-700K, many more would sell. And even then, that may still be a little high, since you have the hidden melding cost to factor in as well (and if you have no intention of melding it...just go farm Coil)

ITs true. Rather than sell 3 things at a lower price every day they'd rather sell one thing for a super high price once a year.

Sellers hate it. Buyers love it.

There's 1 compulsory tax when the item sells and one possible tax when the item sells.

The possible one is what the buyer pays extra from other cities and is easily avoidable as you say.

The other however is paid on everything you sell and it comes out of the sell price (rather than adding more onto it).

For example, if you sell 2 items for 100 gil each. One item is bought for 100 gil by someone in the same city as your retainer and you get 95 gil for that. The other is bought by someone in a different city for 105 gil and you still only get 95 gil for it.

The buyer is not the only one who pays a tax.

SOMETIMES the selling tax can be lowered by selling in a specific city (can be checked with the NPC you hire your retainer from) but usually it's 5% across all boards.

Edit: You can see the tax listed in the bottom of the interface you enter your sell price into.

The problem is, you can see the exact price everyone is selling for. In ffxi all you could see was the price history and how many was up for sell. Also there was that tax for putting items up. Also stuff only stayed on AH for 3 days till removed. All those things made ffxi's ah perfect imho.

The market boards in this game, I believe are not used as freuquently as the AH in ffxi.

For one ffxi 90% of things could be sold on the AH.
It had consumables that would run out like arrows, bullets, potions, foods
It was much easier to get stuff on AH, then trying to find an npc or mob that droped the item.

FFXIV arr however, npc's are plentiful, plus the game hands out pretty much everything. Just by doing primals, dungeons, quest's, tombs.

That's the thing about these modern mmo's, I find myself vare rarely ever using the market board/ah systems anymore. But in ffxi, I used the AH every single day, it was a huge part of that game.

Which once the forums for XI launched (and even on fan site forums) had as much if not more wailing and gnashing of teeth over "under cutting" as... Well every MMO ever.

It was the same as here, but with an annoying "bid the most recent sale price, sale did not complete +/- bid, sale did not complete +/- bid, sale did not complete... Etc until you either guessed right or it was priced well above its worth.

I sell 3* full cost or with your mats at rate as cheap as that because I like charging fair price and I get pm-ed by other crafters from our server saying I am "destroying" the 3* market just because they want to keep everything over 1mil to squeeze out gil buyer money. Fun Stuff.
