As a new player (waited for ps4 version to start 2.0) I'm not sure I could play a tank effectively using a controller.

I'm sure it can be done just not as efficiently as with a keyboard.

So far healing had felt easy but I've only done light groups. I think it will be more difficult once I am in larger groups where a mouse/keyboard would be vastly superior.

My guess would be that PS3/PS4 players trend heavily towards DPS classes where the controller is a good fit.

Oh what's that, you finally got a full party and reserved an instance but someone in that queue left? Let's disband the whole party and have the server find them all over again from scratch and wait for the server to create a whole new instance instead of saving both the existing players that didn't leave the queue and the instance that was already reserved and just finding a new player to fill that slot.

Pretty sure that's how the duty finder works most of the time or else queues would be much faster after someone leaves a spot.

I have had bad experience with "in progress dungeons" But thats because I am a DPS. If a DPS can get into a "in progress dungeon" than that usually means the tank or the healer is really bad.

I tank/dps on PC using controller, I played this game purely using controller from the start, it's not a problem. I have tank the first coil and extreme mode, it just take a good crosshot bar setup and you are good to go.

Not sure about other server, queue time is ok on the server I played in, I levelled 2 dps and 1 tank class during 2.0. There will always be wait time when queueing as dps, so I usually do some FATE, leve, quest or hunting log while waiting. One thing SE need to fix is that if we are doing a leve and instance pop, the leve should not be considered as fail, just reset it so that we can do it when we are out of the instance.

I saw this line in there and had to laugh. I played Dragoon in FFXI. The few. The proud. The people who wait days, even weeks before getting an invite to an XP pt. I wrote a freaking book (an embarrassingly terrible one that will never see the light of day again) while sitting in town with my seek flag up, waiting to be invited to I could just get some xp. I'd try to start my own parties, and people would say "fk no, not with a dragoon, beotch!" Having a pretty solid guarantee that you will, in fact, get into a party in less than an hour of waiting would have been like the heavens opening up, choirs of angels singing, a hoarde of nude supermodels beckoning suggestively from the clouds, Beethoven's 9th playing somewhere in the distance, and God offering to buy me a beer, to me back then. No offense intended, but good god, you can't find something to do for ONLY 30 mins while you wait? REALLY? Just sayin' that sounds really, really spoiled rotten to me. I mean, while I queue up on DPS, I'm forum hopping, doing chores around my house, indulging in my hobby of writing, watching TV, and a hundred other things. And frankly, during the hours that I am able to play, after I've put the kids to bed and my wife has gone off for her alone time, I rarely have to wait more than 5-10 mins for roulettes and/or hard mode dungeons for tome farming. I don't really get what you're complaining about.

I remember clearing sastasha and tam tara in a group of mrd + gla + acn + arc, was hard but doable. And double acn perfectly substitute tank and healer in low level dungeons so u may wanna try that (but u have to shout/use pf for that). And it may be at least somewhat challenging, so u wont die from boredom.

Fact is, there are much more DD's than tanks or healers. SE can't do much about that. They can hand out incentives as much as they want, if people do not want to play a tank, they just won't.

What adds to the DD problem is people's behaviour. Especially tanks. Athough it may look unfair and I know there are also a lot ot friendly tanks out there, I can't count how many runs I made lately where the tank withdraws upon joining, was gone already when I entered or left after the smallest mistake or just because somebody was new and feared his rewards will take too long.

Tanks know exactly that they are needed and they also know that they will get another chance very quickly. And some of them abuse the actual situation and act like they are God's gift to Humans and take care that DD's have even longer waiting times. SE also can't do much about this. People need to change. But I doubt they will. I know the day I can't run the majority of dungeons with my FC anymore will be the day I quit. Relying completely on Duty and Group finder would be killing my Joy in the Game quickly.

Sorry if I didn't understand your post correctly...
I haven't played WoW myself, but if half the classes in wow have healing and tank spec, doesn't that mean half of the classes are DPS? Wouldn't it be similar to FFXIV:ARR right now? With 4 tank/heal classes and 4 or 5 DPS classes?

I always thought adding more tank classes in the game would help alleviating the tank shortage issue.

In the short term maybe. People will want to try them, including existing tanks. It won't just draw dps to it.

After people have gotten to try it, it'll just go back to what we have now. An extra tank class and about the same number of tanks we had before.

If they make one so fun/strong/aesthetically pleasing it just means existing tanks will have to change mains.
