TERA and GW2 are both actually alot of fun. The only problem I had with GW was the lack of the trinity. They had "tank" classes but as they had no real way of holding hate, it was pretty much just a free for all. I think TERA has the formula right though. The classes are fun to play (love tanking on warrior) and the trinity works well. Idk why people think "old" means obsolete.

    Alrighty!!!

Out of the box thinking incoming!

We have more DPS queuing than tanks or healers.

How do we get more players in per run, without changing current party dynamics...

    Player controlled bosses!

    Typical dungeon has ~3 bosses.

Have a different player control each boss.

Now 3 more DPS get in per dungeon.

    --
But wait! player controlled bosses would just focus down healers first!

Not if only the player with the highest enmity could be hit/targeted.

People could just go easy on people and let them win!
This is true, but, reward the boss-player for how long he survives, and how many kills he gets.
Also, since duty finder is already cross server, make sure that boss players are never from the same server as the party members.

But this would make content more random as boss players would not have a set attack rotation, only cool downs on abilities.
    Yup, sounds pretty cool huh?

Yeah, but what about the player for the final boss, he has to just sit and wait until the player gets there before he can do anything.

But, If he does, he gets the same exp and gil as a dungeon runner, plus a token for random loots to be announced by someone else!

first boss - bronze token, 1/3 total exp/gil reward.
    2nd boss - silver token, 2/3
final - gold token, full reward/

I second this. Reason why we have tank shortage in 4 man dungeon is because there's almost no incentive in doing it. Sure they increased the rewards in Duty Roulette, but that can only be done once a day and the rewards actually, well, it's not worth it.

If the mounts weren't supposed to be a solution to the tank shortage, they should've just given it to the tanks who've been tanking since X date. Pretty sure there's more to it, but it just didn't "clicked" due to lame implementation.

As a Dragoon on Excalibur, I usually only have to wait 5 minutes or less. I guess maybe other data centers have it bad.

They tried it with the original FF XVI. As example THM was a good DoT dealer, a good tank and the best healer in one class. People complained because the classes played all the same (except that AoE spells were only for DoM) and that they are missing the classic party roles. As a result the devs started to work on the job system.

Mind if I ask? Which dungeon exactly you're queue-ing?

    3-4 months? it's either 3 or 4, but for the record it's 4

that said, being only 66% through the first year is not "coming up on its first birthday" at all

I'm only seeing this as a Range DPS.

As a Melee DPS I'm entering a Queue much faster than a Range DPS. Most of the time now almost instant as a Melee DPS.

well, it's really 4.5 months, but yeah.

Basically this will always be an issue if you have a trinity or similar setup. FFXI had 4 roles that people typically used and parties of 6. 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 support, 3 DPS. There was obviously more room for variation in that game since the only party restrictions for any content were the number of players and level (and a lot of content had no such restrictions). Even so, tanks, healers, and support were always harder to fill in than DPS.

I'm sure SE has stats on class distribution that would show the correct ratio to make all classes usually queue up without issue, but it would probably be a bizarre ratio like 2 tanks: 3 healers: 15 DPS

EDIT: also, not sure if this was addressed or my experience is different, but this only seems to be a problem with low level content anymore. I don't think I've waited more than 5 minutes for any of the 2.2 dungeons yet.

Got bored of GW 2 by the time I hit 40, and I refuse to touch TERA after it went F2P. Also if your "old means obsolete" comment is referring to me calling this game's mechanics outdated it's because they are. There's a reason basically every mmo that's tried to copy WoW's outdated model has either shut down or gone F2P. The mechanics are older than WoW itself and it's long past overdue for someone to grow some balls make a actual new mmo rather than some boring WoW reskin. Why would anyone want to play a reskin of WoW with less content? Will never understand why developers think it's a good idea to copy WoW when for the past 9+ years everyone that's tried has failed. The only reason WoW is as successful as it is for the same reason the original Wii was successful. It was the first to advertise to a large untapped market. The only reason it continues to be successful is every dimwit developer misunderstands the reason for its success and just blindly copies it rather than trying to actually make something new and fun so the people are pretty much stranded there.
