    The reason this counterargument fails is that people don't hate the current system because it is difficult (time consuming). They hate it because it is unfair. RNG can make you feel like the quest is a breeze or troll you to oblivion, please have some compassion for the latter.
    When is this ever different in MMO's?

    There are always ways to drag out how it takes to get drops and it's usually random how long it will take to get them.

    Even those games that people get so nostalgic about had methods that were similar or possibly worse. Let's take FFXI as an example since it's one I've played the most and SE wouldn't like promotion of other games on the forums.

    Most of the top end gear in that was incredibly random to get; long spawn times, sometimes up to several days for some bosses, when the boss did spawn, you had to be lucky enough to be in the group that got the mob, when your group did get the boss you needed to be lucky for the item you were lucking for to drop, when it did drop there were usually several people in the group that wanted it so you had to be lucky enough to out-roll the other members.

    People could go months or years without getting their drop, others would get lucky and get it quite quickly.

    The Atma quest has removed a lot of those boundaries that we would traditionally see. Yes, we still have the low drop rates for the items but FATEs are quick to spawn, you can usually go straight from one to another or wait no more than a couple of minutes. There's no lockout based on your group, everyone can participate, even those without a group so more casual players that might not have joined an end-game LS in the past can still get end-game equipment. Atma drops are also individual to you, there is no need to try and beat others for that rare drop.

    People are always going to complain, whatever method was used, too easy, too hard, too fast, too slow, too random. Everyone has their own idea on how they want to play the game, you can never satisfy everybody.

    I do other things in game personally. HOWEVER, I do appreciate the fact that they are at LEAST putting in the game long lasting content. Whether this content is boring or awesome, the fact of the matter is they are going in the step in the right direction. Now do I agree with this using FATE system for the Long Lasting content? No I don't agree with it, but at least it gives people "something to do " instead of whining "there's no content". But hey, I rather have whining about RNG than no content, at least I can take this as an acknowledgement that this is content :P.

    Edit: When they do up the Drop rate and people start getting their weapons faster you be hearing things like ( Zodiac Weapons easy to get, make it harder) The cycle is never ending:

    1) Too easy ( 2.1)
    2) Too hard or long (2.2)
    3) Too easy ( 2.3)
    4) Too hard or long ( 2.4)
    See the trend? People keep asking for the opposite each passing patch. 2.1 is too easy? Make it long or hard. 2.2 is too hard or long? 2.3 will be easy ( because the forums are crying about it being hard or long, at least with this particular content).

    All defenders keep ignoring the special property of the SE RNG we've seen so far.
    The RNG as seen for gathering and crafting shows rather unusual distribution patterns, which makes it in the context of fate drops very unfair. You simply cannot keep comparing this other MMOs. If the drop distribution were more evenly, the grind times for atmas would be better distributed over all players. You could get lucky with one or two quick drops, but the current system is simply broken.
    Everyone saying "RNG is RNG" or pointing to other MMOs has clearly no idea what he's talking about.

    the problem is they missed completely the point of what gaming actually is.
    gaming is supposed to be fun, to entertain.

    farming atmas is repetitive, mindless, monotonous work.
    a job normal people would only apply for when the amount of salary justifies it.
    c'mon SE, pay me 10$/hour and i'll do it.

    but the thought that there are people who do this voluntarily?
    AND paying subscription fees?

    sorry but that is just completely beyond the scope of my imagination.

    All throughout the days of beta and into the first couple months of the game, people complained the game was too easy, more time sinks they said. More grinds they said. So they complained and complained and complained. Square Enix finally came out with a time sink the people said they wanted. So people complained again. I honestly wonder often if MMO players will ever be happy and know exactly what they want.
