I was hoping I would find something like this in here.

I hate content becoming void and useless. I can understand level progression gear becoming useless, but not endgame content gear. Until Abyssea and the bs level cap rise, there was still reason to do sky, sea, limbus, dynamis, salvage, nyzul, bcnms, ksnms, past box nms... The gear was good for certain jobs and situations. Only some sky gear was just barely becoming outdated by the time Abyssea and AF3 came out.

Imagine us being given 5 different endgame events in succession... fast enough that we don't have time to acquire everything from the last one. As soon as the next one is released, one of two things will happen. A, we'll stop doing the most recent event, or B, we'll never do the new one. If the gear that is rewarded from one is better at everything than the gear obtained from the other, whats the point in trying for it? (Aka, abyssea griping). By the end of those 5 being released, 1 event is spammed, 4 are useless, empty, and a waste of time. Thats not the Eorzea I want to live in.

I don't want a new Abyssea every time new content comes out in FFXIV. I want content with lasting value. If that means I need to hold more gear to be all that I can be, I'll make that sacrifice, hands down.

*** Edit *** Insert foot in mouth.

I am incorrect, preventing gear swaps is not forcing gear to become obsolete. Different combinations and options, enough so that not everyone is the exact same.... I'm sure everyone will still find a "Best" combo and gravitate towards it... Either way, my two cents are in. I'm not for or against gear swapping. It was actually fun for me. But as long as there is a balanced game, and if I work a long time for something that I'll continue to use it for a long time, I'm okay without it.

Just because gear swapping mid-battle isn't allowed doesn't mean that horizontal gear progression has to become obsolete. If the game is designed well then equipment can still be situational, just on a session-by-session basis rather than for each individual action.

One day you might do a dungeon with monsters that spam blunt AoE attacks, so you decided it would be more efficient to switch some of your STR gear for other pieces that cut a high % of blunt damage. The next day you might run a dungeon with monsters that have fairly low evasion, so you can afford to trade out some gear with accuracy bonuses for others that will increase your damage.

This, very much so. And to expand on this point, there is no reason you have to use the gear on a session by session. There's nothing stopping you from changing gear/classes between fight or before bosses
