In the cut scene Yugiri clearly states that Thancred's style is similiar but different leading to believe is a different job. So Base class unknown but would guess job will be thf and nin.
That was my exact thinking as well. All new base classes will probably be split into two jobs from here on out, and I believe we know who will be teaching us these two.
Thancred was born and raised in Limsa, and that's where he learned his Thiefiness.
EDIT: I might be remembering this wrong. It could be that Thancred was born in Sharlayan but raised in Limsa.
Could not agree more. My speculation (and hope) that I posted in another thread is that Thancred is a Thief, and Yugiri is a Ninja. These will be two jobs branching off a new class.
It wouldn't make sense for Thief to be a class. It wouldn't fit with the rest of the armoury system's design. Thief and Ninja are both classic FF jobs. Classes aren't named after FF jobs, so Thief should not be a base class. I'd expect a name like Scout, Assassin, Rogue, or some other archaic synonym in the same vein as Thaumaturge for the base class.

I'd hope they introduce both Thief and Ninja, similar to the Scholar/Summoner setup, with a common base class, maybe something like Scout.
Uhh, And what exactly is stopping them from adding Dual Daggers as a weapon set similar to Monk Fist Weapons? Gladiators can keep their single Daggers, the one weapon equip would produce 2 Daggers for a Thief/Ninja, exactly like the Monk ones do.Dual Wielding daggers - Because we can't take daggers from GLA and add them to another class, although one uses daggers on GLA and we definitely cannot have dual wielding we have no classes available that can attack with both hands. we also could never have a "dual dagger" weapon type added.
Related, Black Mages and White Mages both use Staves. They even use Shield Offhands together. So its not like they haven't made Class/Jobs that utilize similar weaponry to other Class/Jobs.
Flee could very well be a Skill similar to the backstep that Dragoons use for dropping hate. Except instead of a jumping animaiton, it'd have your character turn and dash quickly in the opposite direction to your facing.Flee - Because we can't have movement speed+ in the game, or even instantly remove aggro from mobs, and prevent aggro for a few seconds (however the latter would need to be balanced right to avoid exploitation)
Steal - Because we can't have us taking items from mobs.
Mug - Because we can't have an upgrade to steal to inflict damage as well.
Could even be used as a setup for other skills.
Steal could easily be adapted into a set of debuffs, for example - Steal: Armor, causes Vulnerability for increased Damage taken. - Steal: Weapon, causes Determination Down. Possibilities everywhere.
Mug could be changed into a Trait to add Damage/Potency effects to the Steal debuffs.
You're limiting your creativity to previously released games.
Monks and Dragoons would like a word with you.
XI is not the only place to ever draw Class/Job skills from. Nothing wrong with taking an idea from XI and then expanding or modifying it for XIV.
Woosh. You really missed the sarcasm in that whole post.
Anyway, I'm with the school of Base Class = Rogue -> split to THF and NIN. I believe daggers will be like MNK fists, since single daggers are for PLD, although they could change this I suppose. Style looks a lot like Kite.
I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree on that last part. Compared to the time Yugiri and Thancred got slicing up baddies all Merlwyb did was shoot some Sahagin. If we started freaking out about every time someone not one of our jobs doing something as "New job confirmed" then we'd have been going "OMG MUSKETEER" back in legacy. This isn't the first time we've seen her shoot someone.
Yugiri going to the underground to teach her skills to others is one thing. THAT is a massive Ninja tease. Merlwyb shooting some odd three Sahagin during exposition is not.
