I'm just curious about how they're going to fit the new class's guild in Limsa. Like, where is it going to go? If it's going to be a rouge like class, it would have to be a bit out of the way no?
Oh, it's still entirely possible, considering that Thief BECOMES Ninja in the first FF.Thief is a final fantasy stardard Job. There is no possible way it won't be a job class in this game as well.
I can see Scout being the class.
Thancred will be the Thief trainer - If you remember in one of the cutscenes they made Thancred out to be a bit of a bad boy back in the day, the whole thief thing would explain why he was in trouble with the law when he was younger.
Yugiri will be the Ninja trainer.
Just a thought if Thief is a base class and DPS. (And just saying for the fun of thinking about it, there are inherent problems, I know).
Thief could have steal and mug, along with other "thief" skills and have access to a wide variety of self buffs via cross class (blood for blood + raging strikes + internal release + whatever native buff thief might have could be a significant damage boost, especially with something like sneak attack/trick attack).
Ninja, on the other hand, could be an evasion/blink tank. Steal and mug could change into different actions when the soulstone is equipped (much like how Scholar's summon actions turn from the Carbies into Eos and Selene). Say utsusemi or something to mitigate damage/increase evasion or parry, or change them into attacks that increase enmity.
Then there could be a second job, say Dancer. Could be a DPS support along the lines of Bard (burn mp for party buffs with self damage reduction), or preferably (for me) a healer (TP based cures, steal and mug turn into curing waltz and something, or something) to fulfill all 3 roles on one tree and that way the class itself wouldn't be useless.
OR Ninja could just be a DPS with ninja skills. Go figure. I think it would be cool if the class filled all 3 roles though =p

They could just have the guild out in the open with no headquarters. Bunch of people mixed in with the regular citizenry, secret phrases and handshakes and stuff. A guild hall would be a bit too obvious.
I can see Thief being an evasion tank class. I lean towards not wanting this to be the way it goes, but I can see it happening.
Thief is about misdirection, right? So have things like the ability to set up decoys to trick enemies into attacking those, or to confuse enemies into attacking each other. Know what I'm sayin'?
In a Live letter when YoshiP went into more detail about Scouting class, he used Thief as the Base class and Ninja as a possible Job for the Thief. Thief as a Job would be wasted as it gets only 5 usable skills. Its better off as a Class where it controls the main skills the Ninja will use as well as all the traits for the job. Ninja can feed off of Thief's skills with 5 core job skills just for it.
The group Thancred used to be with (never classified as thieves but as criminals) would be the starting base with Yugiri passing on her knowledge to help solidify the class (As in they will both be part of the same class with Yugiri completing an unfinished style). Later on Yugiri will impart a Job stone by showing interest into her Doman ancestry.
As for some reasoning with what ever guild being the base class, Thancred's base class will change from GLD to what ever the new class is. All of the members of the Scions are in the base classes. Yda is a Pugilist, Papalymo is a Thaumaturge, Ysholt'a is a Conjurer, Urganeir is an Arcanist. Thancred, like his brethren, will adopt the new class as his so if its a Thief guild, he will be a Thief Class with the addition. If its named anything else, Thancred will be what ever it is named.
Also don't expect to get Yugiri's AoE skill...We don't have Ysholt'a's Shield skill as Conjurers. The key NPCs have skills we may never have.
Uh... is it me or is everyone's name Naoki_Yoshida? lol what is going on???
Its April 1st in Japan.
Well, if we have to do the Main Scenario quest line to get thief as a Class it won't matter either way. As in the Thief Guild won't be available until you have completed that main scenario, then when you switch, its business as usual. Get to 30 with a secondary class to 15, unlock Ninja from a Doman.
