I edited to further explain. Casual Skill Option, not Casual Time Option. A casually skilled player can hop on, try a few FATEs while waiting for DR/DF, get an Anima no problem because the FATEs are easy, and move on. A casually skilled player cannot, however complete BC or Leviathan.

But to indulge you, I do like to gamble occassionally, like buying a lottery ticket, you know so I have something to look forward to. So long as I am not a compulsive gambler and I am able to support myself and my family, I see no reason why this is bad in any way. And even more so in a game like ffxiv, where all I lose is maybe a few hours trying my luck to see if the rng gods smile on me. Try it, you might like it too.

"Unfair" is the luck of the draw. A grind's a grind and I can handle that. Does it harm me that someone else cuold do the entire thing in an hour? Not at all. Do I find it incredibley frustrating that even after sixish hours to not have a single atma with no sign of relief in sight? Yes. Would I prefer something more challenging such as completing all Extremes within a timeset, zero deaths, etc? Definately. Would I prefer at srtaight grind of deafet X of Y mobs? Yes. At least I would know when I'm done.

Thing is, just as many would be bitching if the ATMA upgrades only came through the extreme primals (including leviathan) as an example. A grind is a grind is a grind. Just take the RNG out of it.

I do not consider hours and hours of FATES to be much effort. I can swap to paladin and just flash crap for gold while watching netflix. I do not consider the above killing X of Y any more effort but at least I have a reasonable expectation of when I can finish. I would consider killing all extreme primals (leviathan and moogle included) in X time frame with zero party deaths effort.

FATEs are really an effortless spammy grind with no challenge involved and RNG isn't skillful either, but some people laughably do consider luck as a skill.

What I wished they could have done: 12 different open world battles designed for 8 man parties and an i70-80 requirement, mob spawn points are unmarked, scattered all over the world and randomized every hour based on the party leader, once the spawn point has been found it spawns the enemy for your party leve or treasure hunt style, drops a chest with its atma when defeated. Mob mechanics on par with dungeon boss mechanics, requires tank swapping, etc. anything to make it more than just spam to win.

Alternatively: 12 Guildhest style challenges using open world locations as instances, requires talking to an NPC to initiate, same 8 man i70-80 requirement and could allow for even more involved enemy mechanics.

What we got instead: FATE spam with bad RNG.

Even if you don't mind the grindiness... or the rng element... I still think that the extreme rehash of FATES is terrible design. These are FATES that many have already grinded through multiple times to level characters. Now you have to go back and do an extreme rehash for a new item. That's not new content... that's extreme pharming recycling of old content.

My primary concern was that the dev team was brilliant at translating an old game into a new one, but lacked creativity or innovation for new content. The prior rehashing of content further exacerbated this concern. The current patch confirms it. I understand that content takes time to develop.... but the absolutely absurd amount of recycling happening in this game is appalling to me. Release a new zone with FATES, and make people grind those FATES. Each patch being a new fight... a couple of new rooms in coil, one new instance, and a massive amount of rehashed content just isn't showing any signs of innovation to me.

Even a quest with ridiculous requirements like doing 100 FATEs in each of the 12 zones would be more reasonable than how it currently is. This is *worse* than the FATE grind people did for leveling up before 2.1 as there's no progress indication and no end in sight; you're at the mercy of a hidden loot roll.

There's not even anything encouraging group play -- loot drops happen individually even if you're in a party, and it doesn't even show as an item that a party member obtained. If anything group play is *worse* because of how the FATEs scale with the amount of people doing them.

People didn't do FATEs for hours on end on 2.0 because they *liked* it; they did it because there were no alternatives. Levequests were limited and dungeons had shit for exp.

    with a 5% drop rate, that's 20 FATEs,

so just us give us 12 quests that have us do 20 FATEs in each zone for the Atma.

or if they want players to "experience" all the content, how many unique FATEs are there per zone 10 maybe 12? just make the quest have us complete every FATE in each zone twice (preferably on any job so the XP doesn't go to waste).

most importantly, give us a log so we can see real progress after each one.

It goes beyond reason at this point. People thinking like above...clearly are beyond reasoning. Carry on with this thread, I'll be enjoying the game.
