    You fail to realize that if there are no lockouts, the drop rates are made ridiculously low to increase the time sink. Which is where you get the 1% drop rates on items. MANY people have posted that they do not want lockouts and would rather be able to smash face in coil with horrible drop rates. CT is a good way to look at it. No lockout, but loot lockout instead. At least in CT there is a definite drop. If you get an open world NM/Boss, the drop rates will also be horribly low because it will be spammed non stop. From what I understand, 1.XX players had loads of fun farming their darklight in Aurum Vale with these horrible drop rates. Also, have fun with RMT and their autoclaim methods. Not to mention actual players doing the same. I am in favor of open world events, NM's, Bosses, etc. Just like you. But you don't see me telling someone that their post is useless. I for one don't want SE to slap something together considering the fact they took their design direction towards instanced content. The closest thing to open world is FATEs and I am fine with this until they can figure out how to do open world in FFXIV without shining a duece. While 1.0 had this vast empty space, 2.0 feels slightly claustrophobic.

    Instanced content, lockouts and tome gear beat out 0.02% drop rates, farming and oppressive crafting/upgrade systems any day of the year.


    I agree with OP, there is NOTHING that would make me go back to that old Korean MMO mentality of farming and stretching 10 hours of content thin out over 200.


    Thats what 1.0 was. Tons of empty space to fill in the gaping void left by a lack of actual content and design. Luckly it tanked so that Square could learn from their mistakes.

    Present me a quote from any thread demanding open world content where we demand we want 0.02% drop rates. Guess what -you can't, because no one ever said such thing. Refer to my comment on page 5 for what we want. Just diversity. If you like farming same dungeon every day for months then fine, but there are people who do not.

    I dont really see the difference, open world, instance, if it doesnt give the best loot or people have already gotten their loot, people will not do them regardless if it's open world or instance. What they need to add is something that takes long time to get like the relic in 1.23. The hoops they made you go through just to get that one relic was insane but it kept that 40k people playing it. lol

    In general I agree with you, but it is easy to thwart RMT having a monopoly on NMs with rare drops. Just make them unique/untradeable.

    I would like to point out that drop rates are not always 0.02% I mean in XI Nidhogg always dropped 1 abjuration Fafnir for ridill was kinda rare but I remember my linkshell getting like 7 in 1 month and that was against 3 other LS's sure some drop rates sucked (hocho and thiefs knife for example) but for the majority of stuff the drop rates were fine (I would show you the plethora of rare/ex dropped items I have and I doubt I would have that many if the drop rates were as bad as you claim but XI is in maintenence atm).

    And before you tell me if I liked that kinda stuff so much to go back and play those instead... already did. Just killing time for FFXI maintenence to end on a game that is at the moment more entertaining for me than XIV.

    ff14 is growing at an incredible rate. the only people lamenting the loss of (bad)mechanics from ff11/1.0 are an incredibly small minority on the forum who will not be missed.

    dont know how its stealing from themselves more like I stopped paying for this and am going to pay for XI instead. Speak with your wallet right ? well XIV isnt getting my wallet anymore so hopefully that speaks.
