Please explain how Gridania/LL/Ul'dah care one way or the other in real terms about you finishing your leve. Just because the game says it cares doesn't mean it actually does. There is no competition between cities right now, so this is just a B.S. answer as to why one should not fail leves.
That's the difference between people who form emotional attachments to their character and the in-game world and those who see it as empty pixels with numbered goals.

It's an in-character quasi-RP mindset. Makes perfect sense to me.

As an aside, I would love when the in-game achievement system comes out. Maybe there will be an achievement for a number of completed leves. Wouldn't that make all the leve failers cry?

No. I didn't "form an emotional attachment" to my character before, sure as hell not about to start now. Least of all for pseudo-content like achievement systems.

It's an in-character mindset, whether the game gives you an actual reward or not. Makes perfect sense to me.

I have plenty of attachment to my characters in games. I just have very little attachment to the process of ranking up. Leveling is a means to an end. If one can pretend that Ul'dah cares about leves being finished, I can sure as hell pretend Ul'dah won't mind after I've done the exact same task for them 30 times if I decide to stop doing it.

And the achievement you mention is just another trade off for people to consider; we've been doing it for months, and we'll keep doing it. Until we decide we want the achievement. And then we'll make that trade-off. Yawn.

I cant speak for everyone, but the reason I believe people fail leves so they can retain them is so that they can get at least one rank up to level 50 asap. I used to fail leves so I could redo them at reset until I hit R50. I just wanted to be able to do NM's with my LS with at least one skill. The rest of my skills I got them all up to R25 and R33 through behest and random PT's doing random leves.

And failing leves doent take anything away from newer players. Whenever mt PT fails a leves and we have newer members along, we offer them the option to finish on their own once everyone else who wants to fail the leve drops.

I feel like it's manipulating the system, but whether it's 'cheating' or not is debatable. I'm not saying it is - and didn't really want to make the thread about SE's or anyone else's stance on that. By definition, something can be considered exploitative without necessarily being unethical. I don't blame people for choosing the most efficient route for ranking up, I blame the broken system that rewards failure.

My goal was to find out if there were any plans to fix this, and now we have indirect confirmation that they do for sometime in the future. As long as they get to it before the next influx of new players that will make me happy.

    This thread makes me sigh.

Instead of "removing the benefit" of failing leves, maybe they should add a real benefit for completing them (as in making faction leves not such a joke and possibly expanding on the guild mark system in the meantime).
