There's the problem of players using their rank 50 characters to blaze through the dungeons to equip their rank 30 classes, instead of actually earning those items the normal way.
The content is designed to be played by ranks 25 AND ABOVE (+) so instituting a level cap seems nonsensical to me. I don't NEED to run back through the dungeon to get rank 25-35 gear for my level 50 PGL. The gear I have is already better. Sure I could use a level 35 THM weapon, but what does it matter if I get it on a level 25 THM or a rank 50 PGL? I don't need that gear to level my THM. I could have my THM to 50 without running the dungeon ever in my life, I have done it twice already.

If you want a challenge, then please by all means run the dungeon with a group of 4 level 25s, but I don't see any GOOD reason for forcing the entire server to do it.

Now. That being said. If there is something in the level 25 dungeon NEEDED to run the level 45 dungeon, then by all means please DO cap it. I liked the CoP missions that capped the party because it was a instance in a series of progression. THAT makes sense to me.

You can't design content to be equally challenging and engaging with such a disparate rank range. A rank 25 monster is a non-trivial obstacle for a rank 2 character, but a rank 50 character will kill it in 3 seconds.

Because preventing people from zerging through the new content with overlevelled characters elongates the shelf life of the content and provides a more challenging, thus a more engaging and rewarding experience for the userbase.

That is your opinion, which you are more than entitled to, but I disagree. If anything, I see it as penalizing players for getting to r50. Shouldn't I be getting an appropriate reward for getting to rank 50? Instead you'd have be be capped at 35 just so I can run through content that WOULD have been challenging when I was rank 25, for gear that I don't even need. Seems like a recipe for failure to me.

If they put a level cap on content like this, I will most likely ignore it because I would rather play content appropriate to my level rather than being forced to play content that is meaningless to my level.

Even without a cap, you wouldn't be playing content "appropriate to your level" anyway. Blazing through a rank 25 dungeon as a rank 50 character is not playing content "appropriate to your level".

Makes me worry that it's not as big a 'redo' as mentioned :x
The more substantial map redesigns are waaaaay in the future. Dungeon content and battle reform are the priorities right now. Can't do everything all at once. Gotta implement the changes one at a time.

I agree that it isn't appropriate to my level, but I would be MORE likely to run it and enjoy the content without the cap rather than play my class 25 levels below what it actually is. That is why capping the low-level dungeon would be penalizing higher level players rather than rewarding them.

Do you at least agree that from a game design perspective - the lack of a level cap kills challenge and replayability, and thus the shelf life, or "freshness", so to speak, of the new content?

The only time someone is ever going to play the rank 25 dungeon AS a rank 25 class (i.e. at a rank appropriate for what the content was designed for) is when they are a noobie and don't have any other class higher than that. A majority of the time, once a player has a class that is higher than rank 25, he is going to run the dungeon at that higher rank just because it would be easier and faster that way. When there are tangible rewards and loot on the line, no one is going to purposely gimp themselves if they don't have to.

In the entirety of any particular player's life in FF14, the period of time where his highest battle class is only rank 25 is a very, very small time period. Once the player achieves a high rank and is allowed to blaze through low rank content, that content is no longer interesting and the players clamor for more, thus putting even more pressure on the devs.

With a rank cap, the content is kept challenging for all players, no matter how many high rank classes they may have, thus extending the replayability of the dungeon.

Sorry I don't, because I am not going to play or replay a dungeon that 1.) Forces me to play it as a r25 and 2.) Only has gear that is medium in range and has nothing else to offer me. At r50, the only reason I have to play the r25 dungeon is for fun, and having that dungeon restricted isn't fun for me. At r50, there is no reason I can't choose to a) run it on level 25 class just for fun or b) steamroll it as a r50 just for fun. The only purpose I have to play the r25 dungeon is for fun and the more limitation you put on that dungeon equals the less fun I will have.

Now, if it was for the sake of progression, then my opinion would be different.
