    They likely have high-res textures that they downscaled during the optimization process. Many texture artists I know start pretty big, and slowly reduce file-sizes and texture sizes until they hit a sweet spot of looks and desired optimization. I just hope that S-E kept a few of their larger versions around.

    I think they should have made high-res/poly textures/models, to begin with, and downsize them for PS3/current PC, and implement the high-res, with DX11. That way they could upgrade the graphics, in the game, with each new-gen PCs.
    Isn't that what they presumably are doing with FFV? With a future U-HD PC version in mind, or such.

    what are you talking about? this isn't Starcraft or something, you're supposed to be able to zoom in on your char, and see details, otherwise there would be no point in adding details. they might as well just have made it look like FF7, to save even more resources.
    It doesn't take longer to make a 4k pixel texture, than a 100pixel texture, so there's no reason to not make it high res, to begin with.
    If people want/can play with 4k textures, then why wouldn't they be able to?
    I got 30+ FPS, on max settings, even at Odin, so there's plenty of room for higher res textures.

    They just gonna change lightning and the like, like its supposed to.

    Don't think they got the money to redo the whole texturing on pc, given you can add in tesselation with DX11 ...

    Right; I completely agree with you. I myself work with textures mostly in Maya for my projects, but if they made small textures to start with (which I sincerely hope they didn't), then they would need to redo each texture.

    I have to hope this isn't the case and that there's still a possibility of them implementing high res textures (expecially now that dx11 is delayed). :< We deserve to be able to play a gorgeous game without all that horrid pixelation!

    FYI, I've been using SweetFX since about a week after public release of ARR but it doesn't come out using the in-game Screenshot function, The only thing SweetFX does is change the colour tones and makes it more vibrant, nothing much else.

    Sadly, I called this when that interview had come out. Surprised people still thought they would be implementing high res textures. I remember in the past, Beta forums I think, they had mentioned that some of the textures were getting a boost. The interview left me a little sad. I guess I will sit back with my popcorn when DX11 is released and people are in an outrage over the textures.

    Unless they deleted all the original assets, that shouldn't be the case. They've been scaled down for the sake of better resolution. And that should be the same for the newer pieces in order to keep them looking as crisp as they are.
    Now, remapping them, that could be an issue which might take a while as it tends to bring up a lot of unwanted and unexpected results.
