I'm also waiting for there to be a point to have GC seals, do PVP, and level chocobo.

Nice bandwagon fallacy.

I understand that man, I really do. There’s plenty of things I do think are not “in best form” in this game and have voiced those opinions several times. I’m a pvp nut for instance, and we all know how broken some of the mechanics were lol.
Again, I’m not trying to beat a dead horse, but I need to bring this up again.
My buddy was never about needing to complete end game to it’s fullest. He was always about “our fc needs this” “such and such needs that” “who needs a meld?” “etc”
And then…it just changed. Him mentioning that he is only going to log on to cap myths was kind of a surprise to a few of us.

To others:
The ONLY thing I’ve done in this thread, is try to get some insight from people who’ve seemed to experience the same frustrations, and in turn look for some suggestions to maybe sway him in his mindset ie go do this, have you tried doing this in game?, etc.
God forbid, I go to a forum completely revolving around the game I’m playing and ask for help with a problem about a friend in game. I mean go look at post #78, I’m really trying here… I’ll just refer to this:
Hardly anyone has actually taken what I said about my problem into consideration and given me any advice relevant to my request. Heck, one guy even told people to ignore me (which I'm completely fine with) because I advised people to stay on topic concerning a discussion that isn’t even close to my request.
That speaks more about the community than any problems this game currently has imo. Anyway.
Very eloquent. Thank you. I gave it a brief overview and look forward to the read. I apologize for the generic answer, but I’ve got A LOT of crap to read through. Posters here are making it very difficult to even read most of this.
And that goes for a lot of you others too. THANKS A MILLION IF YOU’VE TRIED TO HELP ME!!!!I’m sorry I haven’t been able to respond to everything.
@Gamemako
Any actual advice? And let me just say briefly, thank you. Your posts have given me more insight into tanking than almost anything I’ve read in this forum. You’re a real sharp edgeI can’t thank you enough.
And you’re also above this, we all know what likes mean around here. Lead by example, you’re off topic, I agree, but you're still contributing to the problem.
THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!
PS-My bud has been playing a lot past couple days...maybe...just maybe....

There really isn't anything to do in game.
PVP? I did like 66 matches, won 65 of them; it got me rank 10. It is a massive grind and every match is pretty much the same. It got boring.
Chocobo leveling? Why? It's useless. You can only use it outside of instances, and there's practically no fighting to do outside of instances... and when you do, it's a joke. The fights are extremely easy, offering no challenge at all. The chocobo doesn't really help or anything. Besides that, when I DO want to do something outside of an instance, I usually sit in a queue while I do that... and I can't with the chocobo. He's just pointless. Even if I DID level him, his contribution is so minor to something that's already faceroll easy to begin with. If I want to painfully grind to level up the bird, there's PLENTY of other games and things I can do that would be a lot more enjoyable, and actually offer some benefit.
Treasure maps... again, pointless. The only thing really worth from it I can see are the minions. I bought them for really cheap. That's that.
Achievements? The majority of them offer nothing; only a couple actually give anything interesting, and they're usually "Do X a million times." Oh boy. That's fun and engaging. The points are brownie points, and if those actually make you enjoy what you wouldn't otherwise do/enjoy, then something is wrong.
Level up jobs? I maxed them. Even this was a stretch. I only ever really play SMN; I enjoy it, and it's my favorite. When I want to go DPS a dungeon, I can play SMN (which I like the most) or play something else that I don't enjoy as much and do worse DPS/contribute less to the group. Yay. As for tanking/healing, yeah, I can do those now, and that only required me level ACN and PLD. Woopie. Before you say anything, yes, I got all the relics too.
As for the content itself, it's all done. I could run it over and over again, and I sometimes do it again for the "fun", but there's only so much fun to be had. Nothing really else to get out of it. I could gear up alternate jobs I will never play for no reason, but that's still stretching myself to try to FIND something fun to do. I don't care about the gear on those jobs; I'm never gonna play it. I went and did the extreme modes because they were fun, but they didn't reward anything I needed besides Garuda's ring, which I got out of the first kill. The weapon for Summoner is a downgrade, so there was really no reward behind it besides the fights actually being engaging and interesting.
Daily quests? These are a chore. In most games, the dailies actually reward something for you doing them; they don't even do that in this game. There's no reason to do them. After month(s) of doing them you can spend tons of Gil on a mount and a pet, but I already have like 6 mounts and tons of pets. I'm not going to ride those mounts (I already like my current ones), and I'm not going to use the pets. Why push myself to complete a chore I don't want to do/have nothing to benefit from? And yes, it's a chore, because there is absolutely no difficulty or interesting gameplay to be had from doing the dailies, and no story to follow. What's worse is when you have to just sit there and stare at a wall while you wait for a FATE to spawn for one of the dailies.
The game doesn't have longevity. The game was fun when I had stuff to do; now I am maxed out item level 90, completed all I want to complete, and there is nothing to work towards, nothing to gain. I had more longevity and interest in v1.0 when the game took forever to level, because I would login and go "time to level up my character!" THAT was interesting. THAT was fun. Even after leveling my CNJ to max, I still could level THM so I can mix the two classes together. Using Chainspell on Shadowsear was a massive benefit to be had, and made it worthwhile to level both casters. Working on improving my character in any way, and improving my ability to perform in a multiplayer scenario is interesting and is something to gain. Working toward a meaningless little minion/mount does nothing for me or anyone else.
FFXI did this correctly too. I started playing December 2013, and I played for days at a time nonstop because I ALWAYS had something to do. Whether it was leveling up my main job or my sub job, going and getting gear that would boost my effectiveness, unlocking things... there was always something to do, and they all provided real benefits. At times it even felt like there was TOO much to do... it was overwhelming! That's great! There's so much to explore and find and do, so many quests to follow that actually provide story or interesting rewards. How about FFXIV?... if I login, I STRUGGLE to find something to do. The best I can ever find nowadays is to help a friend accomplish something (an instance, if they even bother to login).
It sucks, cause I like the game. There's just nothing to do. I want to play it and enjoy it. But the game is making it very hard to do so. Probably not gonna renew my subscription until a lot more content comes out that I can enjoy and experience.

This isn't quite the case I'm afraid. People that did carry on playing in 1.0 are probably those that look to the future of FFXIV, hoping that one day it becomes a much better game than at release. Kinda like what OP said, people did stuff to prepare themselves for when FFXIV becomes a better game; leveling up classes, gather more gil, stock up on materials prior to 2.0. I had a discussion with a friend during 1.0 why we moved on to XIV rather than staying in XI. It was because XIV had potential compared to a 11 year old game that will have to be phased out eventually.
The game had gotten much better by the end of 1.23, and 2.0 was supposed to be an extension and improvement of what we already had in 1.23. People had their hopes up high. But then bam!, we get a simplified FPS wrapped in MMO skin. Totally different nature. People aren't gonna "prep" themselves again for a second time and "hope" that the game becomes better. Simply put, they lost their hope.
I would retract that statement my friend and I agreed on in 1.0.
And you're welcome for that btw. I've also tried to defend this perspective as well. Without constant interjection on my behalf, it would have happened and you know it.
*edit
I was trying to post something in reference to post #150 and deleted my copy paste. Instead of re-do it, I'll just suggest anyone interested should go back and read it.
Thank you for your contributions TrystWildkey, very insightful and well said.
Sorry again for neglecting some of the other posts. I would love to read them tonight, but it's late. I look forward to them.
Thank you so much.

You know this is in your original post, right?
followed by you trying to convince him (and now trying to convince us) that this isn't the case.
It's a little tiresome to continually reiterate what has already been said. At least SE has given us the tools I need to prevent further headaches.

So long, OP. I'm glad you enjoy your time in Eorzea. Hopefully you soon realize that your opinion of fun/content is not shared amongst the rest of us.
Consider that content in XI released in 2003 was still exactly as relevant to do in 2009 (which is when they changed the nature of the game). In ARR some content released on September 22nd of 2013 already became irrelevant 3 months later. That is a huge difference. 2.2 will do the same to some 2.1 content. The first expansion, by plan/design, will make EVERYTHING prior to it irrelevant. There is no direct content comparison at any time frame due to the different nature of both games.Originally Posted by Lots of people
Also, even as an original XI fan, I don't want old fashion HNMs. Just fyi.

Ultimately that's the best course of action in these situations. It's easy to find yourself dragged in to a pointless debate with people you neither know nor care about who generally seem to have little else to do than camp forums when the reality of it is nothing we discuss will change the direction of the game, people's opinions, or matter one jot a few months from now.
To that end, I'll follow your example.
This here about sums me up. Initial reception was rather great, aside from technical difficulties. It seemed most people liked the game's presentation and gameplay. Sadly, it's been a few months since launch, and though it was enticing at first, it's rather discouraging at present.
I want this game to be good, and do well. I want it to be so good that I can't wait to login every day. In it's current state, it does the opposite. Any criticism should be openly accepted as far as I'm concerned. I don't want a game that appeals to "me", but instead, a game that appeals to "everyone". The more players and options in any mmo, the better. I can't imagine variety and options ever being a bad thing in any game. There's no reason these things can't coexist.
