I see too many people say take a break or stop playing it as much or just play another game until an update... this does not work in a mmo at all......

IF you are playing solo sure you can drop and leave a mmo and wait for content.

But what about your guild, what about the people you play with. How do you quit and maintain something that you worked hard to build as a group. How do you take a break and come back without having to rebuild your guild again. People will go elsewhere.

Quitting and coming back is only an option if you are a loner or playing in a small close RL group of friends who all quit together.

Waiting is not an option, especially if you are running a guild. It would be a death blow to the things that is suppose to define mmo play at endgame.. the guild.

In the end the Guild > the Game. So many people at endgame are here because of the players they talk to day to day not the game itself. Many members of my guild hates FFXIV they are bored out of their mind but they really enjoy the guild so they are here and they keep logging in day in and day out. I only assume my guild is much the same as others at endgame. This only last so long, eventully people will get to the point where the work of logging into a game that has nothing for them to do is too much and they will quit.

Yoshida wants this game to be for everyone. He is failing at his goal. This game is for the very casual only. Hell even casuals are getting bored now.

They need to step out of the box and develop stuff that is not mainstream, add sandbox elements, and remove the ILevel system in its entirety. Keep everything we have but make a game for everyone, not just the weekend warriors.

You make good points. In the original post, the friend is mentioned as being 'group oriented.' I think it's very telling, and very disappointing that even a group minded person has reached their limit when it comes to this game.

It's hard to help someone else when the following is true:

No use in crafting things for them, dungeon drops are better and/or they could very easily level all crafts on their own.
No use in repairing their gear, devs removed that option and anyway, by the time gear is worn, you've probably already replaced it.
No use in getting parties together, duty finder has taken care of that.
No way to help them level, again, duty finder or fate farming has them covered.
Can't help with quests, quests are all solo.
Can't help with leves, leves are all solo.
Gathering is also disgustingly easy to level, so no help needed there.
You could help them through dungeons, but in my experience, what ends up happening is that you carry them since your gear is usually way higher than theirs, there's no fun in being carried.
Chimera and Hydra are being added to duty finder, can't bring a full alliance into CT yet.

Really, I'm not sure what group content is left that will help bring a guild together, other than coil statics. Even group minded people are finding a hard time seeing anything to keep them in the game. That's rather sad if you think about it.

    EDIT:

This is another good point. I'm a casual with TONS of 'stuff' that I could do, but I'm seriously bored with the game. Before 2.0 hit, and Yoshi was giving us the roadmap, I was happy that he wanted to put in ways to ease older content. Since I'm a casual, that seemed like a good idea. BUT, the way the game has actually turned out, it encourages people to be even more casual. I look at it and say it's too casual, so casual that I picked up FF6 the other day because I wanted something fun to play ^^

And? Most players are more than done with General Discussion.
I can understand why. I think most of them are more suited for Reddit. They don't like criticism and constantly try to fight it off as the vocal minority. Seems like a decent amount of players have an issue with how end game is done currently judging from forums AND the general mood of my fc/lseseses.

You can flag if it really bothers you. I don't think I said anything bad except show that a majority of the players that view this topic feel the way as I do. I know the game limits you by putting lockouts on content but I didn't realize tthreads are also like that now.

Pretty much what Yurimi said about content invalidation, you can already see it in WP and AK or even the two story dungeons, there's no real reason to do them except to help out new people who need them for story purposes which is nice of you I guess, or just because they're faster and in the case of the Castrum and Prae if you really need the extra phils from the roulette and I guess WP for your relic materials if you can't find them cheap on the markets. It's why WoW just released a paid boost to level 90, because none of the older content really matters outside of vanity or after you're done with the story and everyone wants to instantly catch up to the latest expansion.

That's one of the main disadvantages of vertical progression and bland straightforward stats which could be easily solved by say, unbreaking the materia, stats and crafting systems and maybe allow that dungeon or even primal gear to be SB'd and have a higher chance of giving certain stats or ability enhancing materia, say you SB Pharos gear and have a chance of getting a materia that Enhances Cure or something like that, or you need materials from every dungeon to craft a good set of armor.

Well to be honest, this game is one of the games i played which took up most of my time. And yes, I am in the same boat as your friend now, after clearing the hardest challenges ingame and obtaining full i90 gear with allagan weapon, the rest of the content i would say are not even rewarding enough for me to do them.

BCOB was one of the sole reason I stayed in this game to grind for the BiS gears despite I have complete i90. Now practically I am contented with the gears I have and trying to do other stuffs such as pvp, choco-level, all DOW/M-levelling, even crafting for achievements and GC achievements, I feel there is just no sense of reward or achievement if just say we have max'ed them out.

Housing kept me ingame a while, assisting my FC in gaining gils and yeah my FC is pretty small with just around 12 of us and being able to gain a Medium house gave us that great sense of achievement. But now since we have already bought it, what else can we do?

Finally I just unsub and looking at the first half of live letter is full of disappointment, asking me sub back just for the sake of beating BCOB T6-9 while other contents are still not rewarding, definitely not worth the time and money anymore. Hope the 2nd half of live letter does not disappoint me further else i can consider my hiatus as total retirement lol.

PS: One of the most disappointing content is Beast tribe, having to do it daily and completed it, I thought there is something for us, but we get is "Oh a merchant and we STILLLL need to spend gils to buy those items?? I LMAO, so all this whole time we max beast quest is so that merchant unlock items for us to farm and spend more gils just to buy those beast unique items." This is certainly not the way to go for a content that needs daily commitment and many days added to it. I won't compare it with other MMOs but think about it, max'ing out something after many days and in the end you gain nothing but still have to spend something to get that something.

Thank for exercising the forum guidelines.

I have not flagged anyone for a difference of opinion.

I have not flagged anyone slightly off topic.

I hope all of these are removed to make room for the people actually carrying on an intelligent and decent conversation.

    Again, here are the guidelines:

They're not even that elaborate and pretty simple to follow.

To those communicating with the OP, who cares if he started the thread. We can still ignore him like we do in the other threads and have discussions. He may be saying things nicely, but that doesn't make them nice (or relevant) things. I'm glad he likes XIV for everything it is and everything it isn't. I see it for what it is, and I will speak up about it.

I use to play a lot and then just stopped caring for other content when I started marking off things that would be completely obsolete by other content. Technically everything can be considered content but there is a fine line between good/fulfilling content and monotonous content.

Story was a good example of good/fulfilling content.
Leveling an enjoyable job and subs to improve was good/fulfilling content.
Leveling a job simply to have it leveled is not good/fulfilling content.
Leveling mining in the early stages of the game was good/fulfilling content.
Leveling fishing while targeting rare fish was good/fulfilling content.
Progressing in coil for weeks was good/fulfilling content
Farming with lack of relevant drops or a means of converting drops to something useful is not good/fulfilling content.

The issues tend to fall to the systems within the game. There is no major excitement or fanfare when anyone gets something they wanted anymore. It's closer to "about time" or "guess rng decided to be on our side," because everyone knows that the drops will be worthless in the coming months. This isn't the same feeling as someone getting a byakko's hidate or a ridill in FFXI. It lacks anything meaningful.

For players like myself I need a lasting feeling that my accomplishments will mean something for the future content. Having a straight vertical progression is irritating to me. It's not fun and leads to "this is the only content that matters." I need a horizontal progression to expand my skills and talents. Crafting and Materia were prime ways to deal with this and they turned them into second class citizens by simplifying too much or completely making them irrelevant to progression. I was really hoping they wouldn't have simplified Materia from the FFVII version so drastically. There was a lot of potential for bringing a new level of customization that was completely skipped over.

The actually progression content is flawed by being only instanced raids. This is probably one of the strongest things FFXI did right that FFXIV should have brought back to the table. Open world progression tasks. Places that you could go with many others and use 'pop items' to spawn enemies to fight which gives you other pop items to fight something stronger and stronger with drops at the end that were worthy of your time and effort. Treasure hunts are a mere shadow of this content.

There is a serious lack of battle strategy that irritates me the most. The whole elemental wheel, damage resistances gone, class benefits, and lack of synergy between them is just bad design. It seems they went the completely wrong way on this. It doesn't give advantages to classes in certain fights where you would reconsider what to take but just amplifies the issues between a ranged class and a melee class since there is so little choice. We're playing a game where you can swap classes between every fight if you so wished. This also semi leads back to "Leveling a job simply to have it leveled is not good/fulfilling content." I should have a reason to level another job. Monk should have damage bonuses vs skeletons while bards suffer a damage penalty from them. Dragoons and archers should have a clear advantage on flying enemies with their piercing damage. Water damage should be more potent against Ifrit while thunder damage should shock the wings right off Garuda. Blizzard should frostcleave Titan to small rocks. These types of things have been staples in Final Fantasy's but right now our combat has less depth than mystic quest.

Some say that I rushed the content but I was simply able to process it faster and get the same level enjoyment they got by moving quickly through it.
