Sadly too late for the event, however not too late to make an exchange system. The gear won't be going anywhere, would be rather easy to set up an exchange.
They'll do it, but they'll count it towards your "One time item restoration".
I hope there's a way to exchange...even if it's only a one-time exchange. I was a miqo'te female during the event, but decided to go back to being a male lalafell afterwords, and for some reason, I was assuming that I'd be able to repeat the quests (Silly me). After smacking myself in the forehead, I was quite sad to hear there doesn't appear to be a way to exchange my female gear for male gear...which saddens me...it means poor Mini will never have that awesome Jacket.
*sigh* But there's plenty of other cool gear in the game, I suppose. He's just going to have to live with the fact that he's a perverted little lalafell that keeps women's clothing in his inn room.

Can somebody remind me why women can't wear a grey trenchcoat again?!
I missed the memo on that. Also the fact that snow is male does not make everything he's wearing 100% more masculine until the end of time.
The original model was essentially 'ported' you could say, over to the XIV engine. Only a slight mesh deformation to fit the varying male body shapes was possible in the time that they had.
To make the snow outfit for female character it'd require a fair bit of work, the same for the lightning outfit for men, for the sake of development time they had to just keep it Male/Female as it was originally intended.
[A lot of development time does into these, it'd take a lot more to adjust and recreate parts of the model for male/females]
UNISEX, ofc! Dunno tho.. I reflect on the valentines event, and I think the developer is just ,too, conservative to stomach UNISEX clothing.

It's worth pointing out that there is apparently a male version of the Lightning outfit in FFXIII (someone linked it earlier in this very thread, IIRC), so they already have those assets.
Just dropping in to say the quest is not repeatable.
So if you've changed race, and completed the quest during the last Lightning event you will not be able to acquire the other genders equipment set.
Seasonal and one-time events like this show very distinctly that Square was not planning for people to change gender - they're likely forestalling the release of Fantasia potions on the Mog Station until they have a contingency for addressing these issues.
Bummer OP!
The stuff you people whine about is incredible. Stick to one gender, enjoy the game and the gear you get for it. The devs shouldn't have to cater to you filp floppers every time a new event comes out and you feel the need to switch your character all around to wear gear that doesn't even matter.
They shouldn't implement the function to "flip-flop" in the first place without having worked out a contingency for people using that function. The stuff you people whine about is incredible. Nobody in this thread is going against a rule or a design in the game's established-system they're simply working within it and finding that the developers did not plan events with the fact that characters can change sex in mind.
That is what we call an unintentional oversight - it's nothing world shattering but it is frustrating for a user. A frustrated user invariably will lodge complaints in hopes that the oversight is rectified and hopefully not repeated in the future.
Don't be a dick.
