Everquest 2 offered this where you could buy from the market board for a premium or visit a shop and save on the premium.
I liked it- it made personal housing a bit more functional, as you could set it up as a shop/showplace.

I'd really like to see this implemented. While Ragnarok Online had these and it often ended in the center of Prontera being filled to the brim with merchants (there was a good screenshot of it a while ago), I played on much smaller private servers that had general rules about opening up shops--stuff like "you must place your shop on the sidewalk or next to the fountain". It added a lot of order to how the markets were set up, and it always felt nice to see dozens of merchants lined up along the main road trying to one up each others deals, or displaying a certain name so you'd always know what sort of stuff you were getting. Sometimes you could check some of the other cities and find certain guilds selling items for a lower price, or selling specific items for a class.
If we could set these sorts of shop up in a ward (maybe turn one of the five housing wards into a market ward, since I doubt most servers will easily fill all five up) and remove the taxes from goods sold there, I think that'd be nice. I know I'd like to make that lost 10%--or however much it is--back on some of my higher priced items, and I can't imagine anyone disagreeing that that would be nice.
I like shopping around at backwater and hidden specialty shops, they always have a little charm to them you can't find in places like Wal-Mart or K-Mart or whatever. I don't go to them when I'm looking for something specific, because who has time to do that? But, when I want to just browse around and maybe find a hidden treasure, small shops are wonderful and cute.
this is exactly the sort of appeal I would want personal shops for. Not a main way of obtaining items but a great way to find hidden treasures or rping as a merchant. As someone else pointed out in here, imagine having to obtain a quest item and right next to the npc you hand it in to, are 4 people with competitively low prices trying to outdo each other with the exact item you need to hand in. You buy the item you need, hand it in, and it saves you time and rewards everyone. It would be a cute aspect of the game. I hope they consider adding it with the restrictions I posted.
Personal shops dont work. the sad truth is that they dont tie into a marketplace. This was what 1.0 initially had. unfortunately due to how assets work, the more people there are the higher the strain sustaining this system. not to mention. the lack of a common price for an item. how would you like to have to go searching for items just to then look further to find something at a reasonable price. This is actually a popular idea that many MMO's have tried. however due to the issues of varying prices and hard to find products every MMO that initially had this has moved to a marketplace. I personally love the idea of your own shop, the issues associated however make it a bad idea.

Consolidating the market to one (well, two if you count general chats) location is a good thing. Personal shops would just fragment it and create a huge hassle for buyers. No thanks.
I'm perfectly content with the market board and found the market ward system in 1.0 to be nothing but a huge time sink and hassle. While I agree that you should be able to have a personal bazaar (similar to ffxi and some other games) I would never want that to become the primary point of sales again like it was in 1.0.
Additionally in other games that supported this the reason was generally to avoid market taxes and/or have the ability to put more than 5-10 items up for sale at a time. Given that you can have 40 items up on the market and eliminate tax by traveling to the city which is selling the item on the market, I don't think they should spend important dev time on a feature like this right now. To me there are much more important things they can spend their time doing and personal shops would only please a handful of RPers at the end of the day, in my opinion.
This sort of reminds me of the Bazaar system from FFXI. The Bazaar system in FFXI is TERRIBLE. You have to be logged in to sell anything by bazaar. There's no way to tell who is selling the items that you want except by individually examining people one by one until you find the item you're interested in - and then KEEP ON examining people until you verify that it's not being sold cheaper by someone else. If you're trying to SELL something, it's just as aggravating, as you need to examine everyone to get a rough idea of what your product could be selling for, lest you let a valuable item sell far too cheaply or completely fail to sell because you priced your item way too high.
A personal shop system doesn't solve any of the problems that this game has, and DOES introduce new problems... If it accompanies the MB, then it won't be used unless some items can't be sold on MB (as was the case in FFXI), and if it replaces the MB it will infuriate players due to being a WHOLE lot more cumbersome.
I think making it so that only certian things cannot be sold on the MB is a little drastic and unnecessary. Do you think even if it were something to be used outside of a city it would not be helpful? I remember playing games where if I saw a random shop on the sid eof the road I would always stop and look a tthe items even if I didnt need anything. If it had good prices I would probably buy something. Again this isn't supposed to be something wide scale, it would just be nice to add to the economy, not COMPETE with it.A personal shop system doesn't solve any of the problems that this game has, and DOES introduce new problems... Although I like the Marketplace, I like the thought of being in the middle of nowhere and a player has a shop there and then and when you go back to the area the player isn't there and you never see them again.
No, *you* didn't enjoy it. Other people preferred it. As with XI, I prefer selling my stuff wherever and whenever I choose an not having to even go to a town. Sure I had a dedicated stock in 1.0 and sold lots, but I did most of my sales from my personal shop, not the old market wards.
