The fact that pingzapper and WTFast programs ACTUALLY work and make the lag almost 0 is proof enough for me that the problem is not really with SE but with the way that the Internet Providers are routing the packets to the datacenters. So then explain to me why more people have issues after one of their updates or hot fixes then if it's not on SEs end. Reinheart is a perfect example. His issue with latency/lag was gone, but it came back after the latest hotfix and none of his hardware was changed, so explain how this happens then if it's not an issue with the servers. Each and every update or hotfix you'll notice more/other people come on these very forums and complain about lag/latency.

avoidable with a VPN should tell someone with a functioning brain that it can not be on SE's end, because that wouldn't do anything, especially the VPN part.

VPNs just lessens hops you need to get to SE servers, which in return can lower latency. If VPN lowers latency low enough you can play without ill effects or just mild ones... if it doesn't you are still fucked. YES VPN doesn't always help and their servers can get overloaded or be unstable. Just 1 packet loss can result in death.
