Started downloading patch at 3:01, finished 17 minutes later at 3:18. I have no port forwarding enabled. I am starting to think the issue is with peoples ISP/routers/modems.
I can usually get the patches in decent time when they're newly released on patch day, too.

That what am saying there ISP A: Ports not working right B: there ISP: Sucks and the download just does not work right with there isp. Or C: some people are trying to download ffxiv on a wireless and blame the d/c and slow download on that when wireless sucks for ffxiv.

This would be valid if the many other MMORPG's I currently have installed, which update regularly, had the same issue. None of them do, they all work flawlessly. One of these things is not like the other.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if it is a fixable problem on the users end, as no other patcher (or torrent application) that I have used has these issues, it is ridiculous to expect your end users to compensate for your poor design. Any developer that says "Ah...well, we shall let the end users fix it, its their problem, not ours." will not have many end users for long. And the fact that for most people, simply downloading the patch in a torrent application of their choice, works amazingly well, shows that it is mostly an issue with the updater software itself, and not with the end user.

Your "seventeen minutes" is still more than three times what Blizzard and Trion are delivering for patches of the same size, however, so your post actually supports the idea that XIV's patcher takes too long, if simply to a lesser extant.

WoW, AION, Rift, and Sword 2 (and various others here and there) all currently do not give me these issues, all done through the same setup (as said earlier, looking at the patch sizes proportionately, Rift downloaded in five minutes as opposed to XIV's hour). I'm not saying it absolutely can't be an ISP/router/modem issue for the numerous people here who have issues, but that's still heavily on SE if the other various MMOs out there work fine with the same setups.

With as many people as have complained, with the wide variety of setups people have, that's quite a large amount of compatibility issues XIV has compared to other companies (particularly the much smaller ones like Trion, which SE should be head and shoulders above).

So whether it's the more likely issue of SE's patcher needing work, or simply your theory of a comedy of incompatibility issues, it's still not a standard among current MMOs and not acceptable, and fully within SE's power to fix.

TL;DR, don't go blamin' this on us, when our setups work just fine for everything else out there!

I think I can say with certainty that Trion is letting us download from HTTP, I say this because I get 3 meg a second download of their patches which I only get from websites.

Er... I'm not actually blaming anyone? Just throwing out my experience there. Yes, other games patch faster. That's certainly not in dispute. Yoshida has already acknowledged this as an issue, at least, so we know its been brought to their attention. And of course I want to see it improved, heh.
