    dungeons and motion sickness

please have people with motion sickness in mind when creating dungeons.

example: On Turn 4, my motion sickness gets me really bad. I still force my self to finish the run, but I have to take a lot of medication. The reason for this, The background is an elevator, and its constantly moving downwards. And no matter what I do, I cannot completely remove the background from my field of vision. I play a main tank for my static, so even if I look straight down, its still somewhere in my vision. If possible, please have a way to turn the background into a non-moving wallpaper or something.

Anyway, I "heard" that leviathan is on a moving ship of some sort. I know I'll probably get really sick within a few seconds, and probably throw up from pseudo sea sickness. The thing that worries me, is that its a Story mission, its not a side mission/quest like Binding Coil of Bahamut. Please do not make this a road bump in the story that will force me into quitting the game because I cant progress the story.

It must be really bad for you
How about you zoom in a bit and pan camera down to not see the movement of elevator ?
I am not motional sickness but I never notice the movement of elevator except in cut-scene. I mostly focus on mobs :x

Yah it's pretty bad for me, my eyes pick up even the slightest movements, even though I don't notice it. And then my brain goes--- idk what's going on... And then I get sick... A lot of times I don't even think I see the movement until its too late

Sounds pretty bad. May I ask you how you handle to play the game (or games in general) at all? Because you can't really do anything in this game without moving around, which in turn means things on your screen will move (e.g. like just roaming through the landscape while questing).

Don't know, which hardware and monitor setup you are running, but from what I've heard, running games at higher resolutions, wider view angles and at higher refresh rates and/or frame rates may help to ease the issues.

    EDIT:
It may also help to increase the distance to your monitor and regularly lift your view away from the monitor, so your eyes also realize that you are in a stationary situation and not moving. (the sickness you feel is caused by conflicting sensory perceptions, your eyes report that you are moving in a fast elevator, while your equilibrium sense reports that you are in a stationary situation)

For me (other types of motion sickness may differ), I get motion sickness when I am not in control of my motion.

When I drive a car or other types of local motion (like bicycles or snow boarding), I don't get motion sickness because my brain knows the direction I'm going. But when I ride in a car with someone else driving, I get motion sickness within the first couple minutes. Same thing goes for when I'm in an elevator or escilator. When I play video games, when I press movement keys, my brain knows that I want to go certain direction so it interprets the depth as normal. But when I play turn 4 in the binding coil of bahamut, my brain understands my characters position, but I guess it doesnt understand the movement of the background. The eyes see that the elevator is going down, but I guess when the data transfers from my eyes to my brain, the info gets lost in translation.

As for resolution, I play at the minimum settings with all spell effects off (because flashing light particles also seem to give me vertigo). The screen size I run at is 1200x720 and 30 hz.

Anyway, I don't mind side quests affecting my motion sickness because they are avoidable, but I would like to request that these types of missions not be in the story line. (Please change story mode levithan so that it can be playable for those in my disposition)

Maybe it's worth a shot to try a couple of things mentioned above, as playing at higher resoltion and refresh rates (30Hz? Are you running a CRT monitor?) and increasing your distance to the monitor, so your eyes register the surroundings and and also realize that you are in a stationary situation. Also try not to get yourself too immersed in the game, as this usually amplifies the effects of game sickness. Hope you find a way to soothe the issues.

I found that not playing full-screen helps a lot with this; playing in windowed mode gives me the rest of the screen as a frame of reference that keeps my brain from getting confused about the motion.

This is the reason why when my friends that are new to the game can receive my help for just about any story dungeon other than Praetorium. I have done that dungeon once, and once only because the first time you face Ultima on the elevator and the boss preceding him. Those are 2 technically long fights on elevators that I simply cannot handle mentally. I have not attempted Coil turn 4 because of the same reason, even though I have more than enough gear for an attempt.

It isn't necessarily motion in the background to simulate movement of some sort. My threshhold for this sort of thing is actually Garuda (any difficulty) due to the fact that we're in the middle of a swirling tornado. When I first saw Garuda, I told my friend making the attempt, "FFS I hope I one-shot this boss when I get to that story mission because I don't see myself being able to stay in here very long." Even the forced cinematic at the beginning of turn 2 can be pretty bad for me on a bad day.

Sorry to sound disrespectful to your condition ive just never seen a developer change their content to be less exciting for everyone because they were worried about 1 in 50 feeling a bit sick
plenty of games have flashing lights too but there are tons of people with epilepsy, generally they just play other games

The twintania fight hurts my over-sensitive eyes with all the glowing red puddles/conflags, theyre not gonna change it though..

not everything is made for everyone
