Wait there is a game where ranged ISN'T 10x better than melee?

A good DD will have a ranged and a melee leveled up anyway. Garuda may be easier on ranged but Titan is easier on melee. Be versatile.

Next Garuda EX fight you do, request your tanks to bring either Garuda or Surprana to the ranged group. Test for youself how aggravating it can be if either isn't placed in just the right spot. Then ask why you're punished with a OHK when there's no where to run (except tornado).

Bad tank positioning doesn't effect ranged dps in that fight at all. Hence why it's safer to just bring ranged. Also less overall dps downtime between switching adds as melee generally have to wait for Garuda to WW before crossing tornados or wait for the off tank to grab the remaining sister. Granted the above is minor, charging to the other sister too soon could result in a WW death from Garuda, a chunk of health lost from tornados is the melee is slow, or just losing overall damage done to the sister while she slowly trots over to the off tank.
Eh, don't let the lv 30 something BLM in my profile trick you into thinking my main is a caster.

I only do Garuda with my coil group and as a the off tank (ran it once or twice with my MNK). Tbh I derp on the positioning a fair bit when pulling Surprana down to the South East ....both melees in our group seem to manage though.

The only time I ever see them get hit by wicked wheel is when they move over to Garuda/Chirada before Garuda has finished Wicked Wheel.

I feel ya pain, I was recently inducted into my FC coil group and we pretty much burned through it up to turn 5. Then we went they wanted to do Howling Eye Extreme but being a monk I was pretty much view as a liability in the fight that a range BRD would be better. I myself completely understand where they are coming from, in a MMO you always go with the best group set up that grantee the wins. That is why I enjoy wow "bring the player not the class" mechanic, when the fight punish both side everyone was viable.

As it stand right now between running out from skills and actually moving out BUT STILL getting hit by their skill is actually bull crap. I still hope they can do it like wow where instantaneous skill dodge means a dodge and not be hit half way across the room because you stood in the prepping animation for like 2 seconds.

This. A BRD shooting 100% of the time can output damage similar to a melee DPS hitting for 70% of the time. In a perfect situation wherein both classes are hitting the boss 100%, there's no way a Dragoon or Monk will deal lower damage to a mob.

If you want to encourage a better mix of parties don't weaken or buff either individually. Give incentives like an extra LB box or faster LB build for melee jobs. Reward diversity by making it easier for more diverse groups to achieve the goal. Penalize stacked groups for LB damage...ie. if you have more than two of any job then 3rd only contributes 1/2 damage to LB 4th 1/4 etc.
LB bar is already penalised for job stacking. However, there are groups on my server that can kill just as fast with 4 BRDs and no LB at all.

How does having a ranged make a player better? The melee are the ones that actually take skill, and there is no fights where melee is at massive disadvantage aside from maybe monk on any garuda because of grease stacks and her love for never wanting to stick around.

I like playing dragoon too but, something as fragile and un-mobile like black mage shouldn't be losing on the damage to a job that can get almost 5000 HP and has higher defense ratings.
Except casters have by far the highest magical defense, which applies to basically 90% of all AOEs in this game. They are not fragile in any shape or form unless they are tanking.
Any tank in this game could tell you that having 400 less HP at i90 does not balance out having almost twice the mitigation.
