Vanilla WoW had more in relation to Everquest and FFXI than current WoW does (seeing as most of the dev team were ex-Everquest raiders). Remember when you had to walk to battlegrounds?
I sure do, I miss the days of the true "Alterac Valley". It's when you could summon your ICE LORDS and other resources, before Blizz turned it into a Race where everyone runs straight to your General.
I haven't seen the toxic community on Faerie. I do know the people who are the elites of Faerie Server. So, I avoid them even though I'm jealous of their weapons.
I wanted to chime in to say we are playing two very different games when it comes to player interactions.
Do I see ill-mannered individuals at times? Of course, but they are far and few, and it's been better since 2.1. I consider myself a dungeoneer, as I have run dungeons primarily for leveling DoW/DoM classes and surface to say I have played with players from all over the game. I've seen all types of attitudes and behaviors and many ranges of player skill levels. But in my opinion, the majority of the runs I have interacted with people that are friendly, helpful and overall pleasant to party with.
I do wish the server communities we closer together, and worked together more than just end game contents.
What we suffer is "the curse of knowledge". For new people, most of the dungeons after level 24 is considered "intense". For us, we just don't understand why newbies do not "get the mechanic" when everything is spelled out for you right in front of your screen... For them Brayflox is HARD ("you want me to Esuna all of you? move out of the way? and cure three people???), Sunken Temple is "ZOMG WTF was that", Cutter's Cry was "intense" and Titan "baby trial" was "fck this, I swear I ran and out of the train track from hell".
I know this, once elder scrolls online comes out you are gonna see a big dip in players on this game.
Here is one big reason that's killing it for me, FFXI was all about being geared, this game is becoming the same thing, You are after better gear that is your focus and less story line and quest to progress.
Then you have Titan Hard mode you cant win because people leave and when one person leaves they all leave, you have the AH in shambles, people are getting abusive with those kicks I have seen people kick someone for absolutely nothing. game is going down hill quick plus content is rinse - rewash fights and dungeons get repetitive.
It is just the new generation of gamer. we are still here, just we know that reading the forums and really asking questions is useless. the people who flock to forums post misinformation and have pissing contests about punctuation. Forums are all but useless now. I wouldn't judge a community on them, as most of the community veers away from them.
