How long before you met your first nasty user?

well, there were a few 'funny' people, but one that really stuck out was the tank in normal titan. must have been about 2-3 weeks into the game.

the blm didn't understand english, so I had to translate to him/her what was going on, which the tank already complained about. basically he said something like 'ffs chinese on american server blabla' and insulted all of us. (it was japanese. d'oh)
I had already finished titan, but my friend who was on a whm needed it. I was on brd.
the tank said he was 'pro' when I asked him if he knew how this worked, then said 'it speaks english. thank god' (insert roll eyes smiley here). I explained the fight to my friend via teamspeak.
tank pulls, doesn't turn titan. I tell him to bring him to the edge and turn him. tank ignores it. the blm and myself, we both have some lag, get kicked off from a landslide. tank freaks out. next try, he pulls before the whm can even cast protect. he casts it, gets aggro (derp). I heal him with cure so my whm friend doesn't get even more aggo, and don't even attack, because I really don't feel like getting aggro either and figured it's easier for him not to play aggro ping pong. titan is all over the place because the tank just stands in the middle doing nothing even though the whm is even running to him. tank starts cursing (I think at this point he was no longer speaking english either but I'm not sure, I don't speak whatever language he used ;D)
I'm still calm, just really amused with my friend in teamspeak. the blm uses really broken english to apologize about 10 times, the tank calls them a noob. I tell him/her it's not their fault and explain why we died and tell him we'll just run to titan for the next landslide if we can't avoid it at least we don't get knocked off. this trick actually works and the blm even manages to avoid the slide. yay!
heart shows up, blm in cage, I put my dots on the heart and attack the cage. my whm friend is even helping with the heart. then the whm dies because the tank is .still. not keeping titan away and for some reason loses aggro on top of it. so blm is hit by slide, and has aggro from titan on top of it because they started healing. tank is attacking the heart. blm dies after the heart. tank calls us all kinds of names and leaves.

blm ends up being from our server so I suggest we just leave and ask on our server (balmung) if there's a tank available.
find one. we kill titan on the next try without anyone dying. tank is now on my friendslist and we do stuff together almost every day

so. in the end, while I had a really bad experience with one player, I also made a new friend because of him! yay ;D

I met my first nasty user while running Brayflox for the first time in October. I was a new tank, and though I did research I didn't have any experience in that dungeon.

Brayflox was also my first bad experience. Nothing extraordinary, just a lot of 'wtf are you doing?!!!?' and 'OMG you suck!!' during my first run ever.
Since then, I wholeheartedly expect every single party I'm in to have at least one overly abusive intolerant member; I'm usually right. Somehow I made it to level 48 where I attempted Aurum Vale...
I did give up tanking that day. I'll probably give up on this game all together pretty soon.

Oh man, AV is pretty much the breeding ground for nasty entitled players. If you're able to survive that place and the abuse of party members though, you're all set to tank the rest of the game.

I actually got AV last night in roulette. It was the first time I got anything higher than Halitali in roulette. I was braced for the worst when the message came up that there was a first timer, because I was expecting someone to get abusive about it.

Never happened. Turned out the new guy was a WHM who knew his stuff. The tank and BLM were from the same FC, and turned out to be from my server. We went thru very easily, no deaths and no drama. Got 2 new people on my friends list at the end.

Strange thing with dungeons like AV and Brayflox: with even one bad person they can be a nightmare. But if you're lucky enough to have 4 good people who are pleasant and do their jobs, they're actually quite painless. I've had both experiences.

My worst experience was in Brayflox, and it saddens me to say it was a FC mate who was the problem. The tank was in the FC and lagging in the final fight, and another FC mate was the healer. The FC tank needed the win. Both me and the healer already had it.

After a couple wipes, our healer ranted and rage quit. Which was quite embarrassing for me and the other member of our FC. We were forced to go back the next day with another FC member as healer and got the win with one try with no deaths.

That healer quit the FC a couple weeks later. Since then I've seen that healer around the server. Every time I see him he's got a different FC it seems. Last time I saw him he had none.

Yeah. I was actually surprised because I generally don't play online multiplayer games. I didn't really think they got that cartoonishly mad and arrogant. I was more struck with comical awe than anything else. I mean, you know people make fun of that behavior all the time, why would you embrace it to the exact stereotype?

I've done about five Brayflox runs on my SMN in the past two days and every one of them saw users politely helping others and giving tips. I had a great first run in Aurum Vale, but that's because I entered with a pre-made party and the leader knew up front that I had never been there. There will always be nasty people, but all I can say is don't give up tanking, if that's what you want to do! It's a hard job, especially when you enter into a place with no experience, but you can do it!

You should abuse new people in parties more, maybe you'll get banned one day and all those 50s and the time you put into them will go byebye forever. Guess what? Not cussing people out and telling them to go kill themselves over a game doesn't get your account terminated :P

your opinion is speculate, i never harass players but yoship has cleared told us to be responsible for your own game knowledge and expecting carries through is an abash to the endgame. period.

I had that dungeon in my GC quest list since a couple weeks after launch. I finally got it done the other day. Most of the groups dissolved before downing first boss, no one wanting to learn what to do, not listening, then rage quitting. Had a run i felt was going that way the other day, started great, joined in progress, no issues with anything until last boss. Two SMN in party, had a hard time getting the adds down, healer kept going down. He left after insulting us. We wait a bit, wondering if waiting for a new healer would be worth it, and after ten minutes, new healer, downed boss in one, no issues.

My first bad player experience, was in Quarn near launch. First boss, i had never done it before, no one gave advice. We wipe. I get told "Learn strats noob". No one says what to do, we wipe again. After a while, tank tells me what to do, mind you, it was all BS, and wrong. He said, don't kill bees, stand on platforms unless you get doom, then run off. Yep. Wonder why we kept wiping.

For all the bad experiences though, they are few and far between. Many more awesome parties, with people letting people watch cutscenes, learn fights as we go with wiping at each new mechanic, no raging, etc. Those are the groups that keep me playing, especially since there isn't a recount type thing here, which seemed to cause most troubles in WoW that i saw.
