Anything I saw about 'hardcore game' usually goes into the 'gamers' themselves and one link I saw even said that hardcore gamers tend to stay away from consoles such as the Wii. Conversations I did find on 'what makes a hardcore game' always seem to end the same way as well which is basically that a hardcore game is whatever that specific person finds hardcore and isn't a specific type of game officially, but 'hardcore games' and 'hardcore gamers' depend on the person you speak to.

Actually many gaming sites also say hardcore 'in their opinion' is whatever they think it is. So yes it does seem that while a lot of people do agree that 'x' game can be considered a 'hardcore game' and due to that games within that category are labeled 'hardcore games', it is also dependent on the person playing the games and there is no 100% set definition on what a 'hardcore game' is.

I think the best quote I found is as follows:

So it still seems hardcore, while some games have fallen into that label, is all about the gamer and the affection for gaming. So while yes some games do fall into what people consider hardcore, you can't tell someone that a hardcore game isn't about their opinion because to be honest gaming is all about the players opinion, what they like, don't like etc.

I’m sure you’ll say I’m wrong or stupid etc… you seem to be putting a lot of people down in this thread who don’t agree with you. In the end it’s all about an opinion and people are allowed to have those if others like it or not.
All you've proved is that your definition of incentive to reply the game is not what hardcore games is. I don't even know why we are having this discussion as i think 100% of hardcore gamers and 99% of pple on this forum know what is a game aimed for the hardcore and what is not. Ninja Gaiden 3 is for the hardcore and i don't think you will find anyone else besides you disagreeing with that statement.

You claim WII U has no hardcore gamersor supposed hardcore games but 80% of the games they showed are hardcore games.

And you're right, hardcore gamers tend to stay away from the WII, that's why Nintendo made the "WII U" which is aimed at satisfying them as much as the casuals and with a line up like darksiders II, tekken, Assassin's creed and Ninja Gaiden 3, i think they are going in the right direction.

    LOL Ok...

One) It's not my definition of anything. I looked up what YOU claimed a 'official definition' of what a 'hardcore game' was and I found no such 'official' definition. So please, link me to where you found your 'official' definition to prove that it is, in fact, the official definition if you're correct.

Two) I also said that there are games that are known as 'hardcore' games, but they didn't start as hardcore games. They started as games, that gamers and company's developed into what people now call a hardcore game. Even then they got that term because it started with the opinion of players and the game makers of what makes a hardcore game and developing from that. So opinion matters, something you might not consider a hardcore game, if it gets the right audience can become a hardcore game so a hardcore game depends on the audience and gamers that appreciate and attach to it.

Three) No place in my post at ALL did I say anything about the Wii U and if it has hardcore games so don't put words in my mouth to try and prove your point. I only mentioned that a site said that hardcore gamers tend to stay away from the Wii, and the Wii is NOT the Wii U, thank you.

So as I said, all things start with an opinion. My opinion, I don't think at this time the Wii U can support FFXIV but I also don't know the full specs and seeing that it is a year until the release of the system they could change the specs of said system. So my opinion is lets focus on getting the PC version working, since this Wii U system is a year away. Lets worry about if they can put FFXIV on the Wii U after we get the PC version fixed and the PS3 players (who have been waiting a long time) can actually play.

Edit: I must say I agree with this:

Part of the problem with using “hardcore” as an adjective for a game is that a lot of people play apparently simple games in what we would see as a “hardcore” way (Hardcore Rock Band players, as an example) and others will play a complicated game – and enjoy it – on easy settings and never really grok everything that is going on around them. From where I sit, hardcore is an adjective best applied to players – not games.

    Processors:

    IBM Power-based multi-core 45 nm microprocessor "3 core Cpu"
GPU: Custom-designed AMD Radeon HD GPU "Note:should be an ATI from the R700 family"
with a shader unit at version 4.1. RAM should be at least 512 MB.
It also have a blue ray and can play 1080p

Now i don't know jack about console only computer seeing as am a computer repair.

Note i post this to show you the specs to see if you think this could run FFXIV who knows maybe it can more then the ps3 but maybe not.

I agree with you, consoles are a whole different beast... and even though these are stated specs at this time, they have changed specs before release on consoles before. Look at Vita, they stated specs for it and then changed them. So that is why I said at this time I don't think it could, but it's also a year away so it is an unknown factor.

PC specs and Console specs are completely different. Console use a totally different architecture and it's hardware is 100% dedicated to the games it runs as opposed to PCs where the hardware is running the OS and other things along with the game.

These specs are not very specific... all IBM said is that they made the CPU and it's base on 45nm chip and it's multicore. (did they say it's 3 cores? i don't remember seeing that) as for the GPU the r700 series is not confirmed i think it was a rumor but it could be... we will find out later on.

They probably didnt give any specific numbers as they don't mean much to most of us, you really need to start developing on the machine to see what it is really capable of.
