In WoW I had a lot of fun leveling up, seeing the different zones and stories that came with them. Leveling in WoW was an epic experience because you always find yourself in new places, you're actually learning about the world as you go on.

FFXIV just lacks epicness, I still don't know much about the game world other than the empire is basically evil. There is nothing fun about leveling at all. What people don't realize about the FFXI leveling system was that you traveled the world, getting to camps was a dangerous affair. I think FFXIV lacks the epicness, its not the pace of leveling its the fun thats had while doing it.
I 100% agree.

Hate WoW all you like, but Blizzard is good at storytelling and the game is so rich in lore. You have so much fun following epic quests and exploring the lands that they take you to, that you don't realize how much you're leveling at the same time. That's why I really hoped that the sidequests would reward exp. But they were a disappointment. I'd love to see this game build a real questing system.

Eorzea is rich in its own lore, but so little is done with it. We never feel like we're heroes in a story, we're mercenaries for hire killing imps all day.
