What is the percentage of those complaining about the prices? are those complains even justified? are they confusing FC housing with personal housing? or are they simply expecting to be able to afford housing at minimal cost to them?

The likes on any thread negative about the housing prices compared to those trying (and failing) to defend it in the name of mindless elitism are so overwhelming to be statistically relevant. You really should not need to ask that question.

Housing on most MMORPGs is provided with entry level tiers to allow most to experience the feature, which makes the feature effective at engaging players, which is the ultimate goal of every major featured added to a MMORPG, especially a P2P one. As it is the feature is simply a large load of wasted development resources, as it engages only a part of the population, and most probably not even a big one, which is a bad idea so close to launch, when games are always starved for features and for improving their engagement values to keep people subscribed.

Making large and largely publicized features into a luxury is simply bad design.

There are three problems that have caused this housing fuss:

#1: It was stated in the past that a small house would cost roughly 3x a lvl 50 characters Gil after the main scenario (Apparently 66.6x for a small and 1083x large now for my server).
#2: Housing was a big aspect of the patch that many were saving up for to hit the prior marks. How in the hell is a new player on a Legacy server ever going to hit 100m+?
#3: There aren't enough ways to make money, so the patch better bring something.

I would expect this, but that would completely negate the reason they gave for the house pricing (remove gil from the server) so...

the cost of FC housing isn't meant to be entirely shouldered by a single player.

So, with this persons 250,000, all they need is 99 more with their gil to buy the cheapest house on our server.

Not long ago SE said anyone with more than 8 or so million is a gill seller/buyer and banned their accounts while investigating the issue.

I have only 250,000 to my name. I suspect the majority of players at any given time, will have on a single retainer, anywhere between 250,000 to 300,000 gil tops. Hundreds of millions of gil is not the norm, and one must question how someone even has that amount to begin with.

I guess they're running with the assumption that everyone did this though I'm not sure how much really could have been made after taking into account the ARR denominations. If this is the primary culprit though, way to punish those who refused to participate in the same practice.
