I knew it was going to be a cluster**** but I figured they'd fix it within a few months.
XI with new tweaks to the formula (instead of throwing everything overboard and pretend it never existed).
to all of you expecting it to be like xi didn't follow the game any if at all during production. the game was completely advertised as not being like xi. that was actually the reason i got the game was because it was not going to be like xi.

better....
This thread is important because I think a lot of people came to FFXIV with a clash of expectations. I don't know about you but I went to www.finalfantasyxiv.com and then expected what was advertised.
Some people expected FFXI and some expected WoW.
Personally, I was expecting more of a sandbox game than the one given and the one proposed for the future. The player-run economy and player-run companies were features I was really looking forward to. The player-run economy failed to live up to expectations but is still a far cry better than any other game I've played. The player-run companies may still be in operation but I fear that the concept will be poisoned because of the recent shift in design philosophy when Yoshi took over.
You can't really have two competing philosophies in one game and please everyone.
Riiiiight. The game was advertised as being more solo friendly, not once did they mention it not being like XI...in fact they said they made the character models the same so that people migrating from XI would find it more appealing...if they weren't targeting XI and ex-XI players why make the character models the same to begin with? its definitely not out of laziness because the models were built from the ground up from concept to mo-cap to 3D. If they didn't want it to be like XI and they were targeting XI players anyway than they're just stupid and the game speaks for itself.
Anyway, "like XI" doesn't mean take everything from XI...but FFXIV took nothing from XI and everything it did to stand out sucked the big one.

Pretty much what it was. When I read up on the current state of the game when open beta ended and the CE edition was 8 days away from being up I knew it was going to be a disaster, but since I saved 20 or 30 dollars bundling this with my OS disc I decided to give it a go.
While I did like some of the concepts the game did do (Not making this like a clone of XI) I didn't have high expectations.
Per the XIV official site, I expected PUG to come with STEAL. (Which still hasn't been updated)This thread is important because I think a lot of people came to FFXIV with a clash of expectations. I don't know about you but I went to www.finalfantasyxiv.com and then expected what was advertised.
