I'm sorry but at US launch you could *not* even run through zones like East Sarutabaruta in 2 minutes. Later on they increased (several times) how fast your character (and monsters) ran, but at launch when there weren't even chocobos it easily took 4-5 minutes to run through the zone. And that was just straight running and bypassing the monsters. More like it took 5 - 10 minutes to run through XI's *smallest* zones.also. um no. most XI zones are fairly small compared to even the smallest XIV zones, you could get through most zones in XI in less than 2 minutes on foot. most of the ones you couldnt were due to obstacles. I don't think you are remembering the same game. the largest zones were like valkurm dunes , beaudacine glacier and a few select others and even those were not very big. obsticales do not make something small bigger, they just make them a bigger time waster

Oh yes, the 45 minute run to Jueno for the first time, whilst you prayed to every god you knew that you would arrive safely. It saddens me to think they have shrunk the FFXI world as well. Used to be the only "fast travel" you could get was a pocket whm, a teleport <insert telepoint here> and running around to rent the choco, and you still had a 5 minute run into <insert city here>. Much faster than the airship.I'm sorry but at US launch you could *not* even run through zones like East Sarutabaruta in 2 minutes. The whole game doesn't have to be the same. I mean they could introduce areas that have expansive and dangerous zones... with minimal transport abilities and more meaningful overworld content.
It could be a different continent or something... I am really hoping this continent is the noobie easy continent and future ones will be more adventurous.
I hear you there. And Jeuno was just the midway point between all the cities.Oh yes, the 45 minute run to Jueno for the first time, whilst you prayed to every god you knew that you would arrive safely. There is no place you cannot run in XIV in 45 minutes even on foot, since most zones only take 5 minutes or less to run through these days :/ I kind of miss the old 1.0 areas for their sizes (but not the copy/pasted terrain) heh
With the exception of a small handful of interesting points of interest in 1.0, I don't think FFXIV ever really had that magic in the first place. Most of the world was copy/paste in 1.0, and while there were monsters that could trounce you at level cap, there was very little waiting for you once you'd managed to sneak by.
Personally, if we're going to see an FF MMO (or any MMO) with 'that magic', I'd rather see one designed from the ground up on that premise, rather than see FFXIV go through yet another session of "corrective" surgery.

It's very very rare a positive thread ever enters these forums. ( Because people come here to mostly vent their "negative energy" here) :P.

This, right here. I started in UO. Man, when I think about UO, I froth at the mouth. It was glorious. Open world, literal sandbox. Then EQ. My first time adventuring through the dwarven lands, the chess board with giant skeletons, the zone that was along the ocean and lead to a whole zone of undead and a spooky house! Navigating the sewers of Kazik Thule!
But let's be realistic. That's call nostalgia. I loved playing those games, at the time. If I went back now? It wouldn't be the same. The game hasn't lost its magic. The genre hasn't, either. The magic is gone because you've been around the block a few times. You've seen what there is to see, several times with different coats of paint. Even when games do add unique features, and they do, your mastery of the system is such that you quickly assimilate it as "just another feature."
If you want the magic, try a new genre. Try a new genre, with an entirely new theme. Try a new hobby.
