People like to gleefully ignore info from the devs that could potentially make their concerns moot. These are the same people who like to call everyone a white knight. We really should start calling all the cynical people here black knights or something.
I haven't really paid too much attention to the PvP aspects of this game. I have always been interested in it, and will definitely partake in PvP because I'm usually good at it, but it's not what drew me in to FFXIV. So I just wasn't bothered to really keep up with everything. So I guess forgive me if this is a noob question or if it has been answered in 3584763 other threads that I probably didn't read...
The way you state that..."newbie" gladiator, makes sense to me now more than before when I first found out our names wouldn't be included in PvP. And I also just read that there is supposed to be 30ish different ranks of PvP to level up in. Does this mean that when you 'rank up' in PvP, your moniker will change from Fresh Meat to the next echelon name? If so, that might actually be kind of cool.

That would be a good idea, but judging from the dev postings it looks like the naming conventions won't work that way.
Im a big fan of choice, Not a huge pvp'er but I have found it very fun a times, but only in open world, GW2 pvp to me was stupid.
Id like to see player run tourneys, and Id like for some pvp zone, not an instance at some point, with possible loot, a lot can be done not to make it a gankers paradise, while allowing people to have some pvp fun, Options are always nice, maybe a function that allows FC's to go to war or feud, and then those players in their respective FCs are flagged to pvp each other for a week, I'd like to see it all, Eq2 PVP was realm vs realm and I had a LOT of fun going over to Freeport and sneaking up on guys, well done pvp makes it so you don't get bored, something that allows players to fight each other, and some method of rewards would be good, I really do like the war idea, or maybe a permanent zone that your FC gets so much gil or items for holding for so long, if all they offer is instanced pvp I most likely wont do much of it.

I wonder how that is going to work with the frontlines. Can't call people out by class cause there will be multiples of the same class.SEASON 1, GRAND TOURNAMENT, FINAL STANDINGS:

Rank 2: Fresh meat, Fresh meat, Fresh meat and Fresh meat.
Rank 3: Fresh meat, Fresh meat, Fresh meat and Fresh meat.

We're not supposed to call people out to begin with. That's offensive. When feelings are at stake, you must be very mindful. We simply have to do the best we can, keep our chin up and fight with honor.
He isn't talking about calling people out to be rude or offensive, he means to be tactical by focusing on a player or troublesome classes/jobs.
Quote for the truth.SEASON 1, GRAND TOURNAMENT, FINAL STANDINGS:

Rank 2: Fresh meat, Fresh meat, Fresh meat and Fresh meat.

Only those who try will become.
