Ok, for all the new people that have come in after the dev post, I've been one of the most vocal in support of this idea. Here are my reason swhy:
I do not want the gear/loot/achievements/prestige.
I was a 1.0 player, back when you could progress through the entire game with a crafting class as your main.
I admit that I am not that good at games. I tend to choose them carefully because of this.
1.0 was chosen because it originally worked well with my skill level and interests.
1.23 was harder than I expected, but (barely) within the upper level of my skills.
I am not good at recognizing and responding to patterns, and have trouble with reaction times and hand-eye coordination.
I AM learning my class, and making some progress over a large amount of time at my skill level, but there will always be a limit.
The current storyline dungeons are at the top of my physical limits to play.
I DO NOT want anything else in this game made easier. Please stop and re-read that. I DO NOT want anything else in this game made easier.
I thought it was a fantastic idea that they release a story mode for Coil.
Why? For all of the reasons above, but most importantly for this reason:
1.23 ended over a year ago with a massive battle and a very moving video of Bahamut unleashed, deities petitioned and responding, Bahamut wreaking havoc, and me and Louisoix disappearing.
I want to know what happened with Bahamut and Louisoix. I do feel that it is unfair to lock this very important bit of story and lore behind THE HARDEST AVAILABLE CONTENT IN THE GAME.
That's the important part. Not simply that it's hard, but that it is THE HARDEST available content in the game.
I know I'm not an end-game player, I know I'm not a raider and I know my skill level is not going to allow me to beat coil. Oh sure, if you want to shout 'learn to play' at me, by all means do so. But I have no desire to spend months running the same thing over and over again just to keep losing on the off chance that I might scrape a win or get carried through it. That is not why I play games.
I DO NOT want all conent or any loot handed to me.
I DO NOT want everything in the game made easier.
If 1.0 was released with this combat system, I would not have played it.
I am not begging, pleading, demanding or threatening to quit.
I am trying to help people understand that not everyone is able to play video games up to the skill level required by Coil. In a perfect world, people like that would not be playing this game. But, 1.0, 1.23 and 2.0 are all very different games. I simply want to experience (not watch on Youtube, experience) the continuation of the Bahamut storyline. An easy, story mode with no rewards, should not affect end-game raiders. In fact, if mechanics were the same, just tuned down, it would provide some players with much needed experience and confidence to challenge the hard mode.
Please take into account my reasonable statements and don't focus on the few troll posts if you want to continue this thread's discussion.
