Talk about devaluing an experience ^^ There may be no shame, but there's no enjoyment either.
I'm curious how watching videos of the cutscenes is somehow less enjoyable than watching the exact same thing in game.

If you want to talk about devaluing experiences, I'd say putting in an easy mode devalues the experience a lot more than anything else could.

However, I want to ask why this is a bad direction? Are the current story mode primal fights a bad decision? They don't provide gear rewards, and what I'd like to see is a comparable Coil instance. Story mode, similar mechanics, but easier. No rewards, but storyline and lore goodness.
Hard mode primals are not the same story though. It is a seperate story- thus it's not a valid compaison, as the normal mode primals are not giving you the same story reward.

Why are you ok with it eventually being nerfed for EVERYONE, but not ok with instead, an alternate story mode?
Because it's a waste of SE's development time and money when the content is eventually going to get easier anyway, without a special mode.

You know, there was a time when the Shadow Lord lv50 fight in FFXI was the hardest thing in the game. People have been soloing it for years now, despite no actual changes being made to the fight itself, nor was an alternate mode added. Content that was once hard later becomes trivial over time, naturally, with no modificaitons or special modes required. Why invest extra time and money to develop a special mode when the same thing will eventually happen on its own without them making that investment?

First, I'd like to ask again if it devalues your experience if someone gets a primal weapon drop on their first try, but it took you 10 tries to see yours drop?

Second, many people have already mentioned that SE plans to nerf coil later. (though we don't know exactly how much later) If they've already got people working on a nerfed coil, how is it a waste of their development time to use what they're already developing as an alternate version instead of a replacement? If anything, I think that would make the original development time of coil more worthwhile, since it won't be removed from the game.

In the future, instead of creating easy modes of dungeons the team plans to add powerful buffs to players that will make difficult dungeons (including Binding Coil of Bahamut) easier to complete.

"Grow up" coming from a person that "works" on a video-game.

Cool. Looking forward to beat Turn 5 in 6/6/2014.

See....if enough people make their voices heard loud enough the Devs will listen, and they will think of a better solution to the problem than having to work on a whole new easier version of the content.

Thank you Hvinire for the information!

I'll take a stab at this answer as a developer myself. Most companies that do development have what they call "release cycles". Let's for the sake of argument say that for 2014, there will be 4 release cycles, completed every 3 months. Those cycles are completed on February 15, May 15, August 15, and November 15. To bring them into perspective for FFXIV, let's call February release 2.2, May 2.3, August 2.4, and November 2.5 releases. With today being December 3rd, we wrapped up development for 2.2 release a while ago and it's in the middle of testing. We are already beginning to flesh out what we are doing for the 2.3 release in regards to gathering requirements, design, etc. as well as correcting bugs found in testing, etc.

How does this relate to what I quoted? It boils down to that while they have it planned for being "nerfed" in FFXIV 2.2 when Turn 6+ is released, chances are good that they aren't actually coding it yet. If I had to take a guess, they are probably close to the end of design and will begin coding on it in the next couple weeks. I'm not going to pretend to know what their "nerfs" are, but depending on the extent, it could be as simple as updating a couple values in a table, to completely redoing some mechanics (a la Raid Finder in WoW). So to make a long story longer, them developing a "story mode" version would more than likely actually be more work because chances are they would be looking at adding it to DF, if they do decide to not drop loot then that code has to be modified, etc. where as right now, the nerf wouldn't be as much of a change. Let's assume they did create a "story mode" though. Chances are good it would come either at the same time or after the nerfs, which would probably make it a moot point.

Wow, we got a dev reply O.O I did not expect that! Thanks Hvinire You get a happy Lala dance!

Also, I guess this settles the recently brought up point regarding development time. However, I am still left with no understanding of why something like this would devalue anyone else's experience. (I'm also wondering what the time frame is for this, but, alas, I guess I will have to wait )

Also, sincere thanks to everyone in this thread who kept the discussion an actual discussion. As exasperated as I sometimes got, I'm very proud that the vast majority of us here did not resort to mudslinging or personal insults. And now that I think of it, finding people like that in game is another reason why I keep playing ^^

It's not begging...if you work for a game company you should know better than that, the Devs are always looking for feedback from their player base, whether its a good idea or not it's always good to give them feedback on your playing experience, what you like or don't like about the game...what you find too easy or not challenging enough etc etc. =P
