SSDs do not spin, there is no RPM rating. SSD speed is rated in IOPs and data rates. What you have is a good ol' standard hard drive. And the PS3/4 are more than capable of handling 7200rpm, which does not generate significantly more heat than a 5400.Do it mate, I got an SSD a few weeks back and my GOD FFXIV runs so smooth and fast now, almost no load times
Make sure its 5400RPM though or you'll over heat the PS3 and kill the machine, 7200 might be a few seconds faster but the PS3 wasnt built to cope with the extra heat they emit.
EDIT: example since I timed it, it took 1min from log-in screen (user name/password) to get to the adventure field (New Gridania) during UK Prime Time the other weekend
Source?Do /NOT/ get a hybrid drive for a ps4. They tend to rely on software drivers to determine which data gets put into flash memory, drivers the PS4 will not have.
They're also largely a gimick and rarely provide any sort of meaningful performance boost. You'd be a lot better off buying a decent, standard platter drive.
They are drives which need extra drivers, but then we're not talking about hybrid drives. Actually it's SSD drives which are better off in a modern OS, which support the TRIM command. Without it the drive can't do proper wear leveling and depending on usage it shortens the life span of the drive. Unless you only play FFXIV and are ok with a small drive size, I highly recommend a hybrid drive
Sata 3 is backwards compatible not to mention you can get sata 2 ssd's more times than not you will never have enough throughput to fully populate Sata 3 unless you are transferring larger files. Ssd has that advantage of flash memory and can pull the data you want to load faster
sata 3 will run at sata 1 and sata 2 speeds
You can use your SSD in the PS4, but be careful, you don't want to have a SSD too small. The PS4 OS takes up roughly 120-130GB of space, and might take up more in the future.

Google is a good one.
TRIM is completely unrelated to wear leveling, which is performed entirely by the controller and will work regardless of the OS/device the drive is installed in - nor is TRIM in any way related to the drives lifespan. TRIM is purely performance related, it zeroes out blocks of data that have been tagged as "free" space. Most modern SSDs include a "garbage collection" feature which does the same thing, making TRIM largely irrelevant.

I agree. Hybrid drives are at best a pain in PC's. On a PS3, I doubt it would even work. A straight SSD (SATA II or Beter) would be a better fit.I think that's what the hard drive is called, well anyway. I am thinking of upgrading as I am sick of the slow loading and extreme lag, but at the same time I don't want to spend a fortune on the HD either since I plan to move to PS4. My question is this, is it really with upgrading considering I plan to switch to PS4 and if I do what is a good inexpensive option? Thanks for any input.
You indicate that you want an SSD to stop gap latency issues? The SSD will help you load zones faster (Mor Dhona to Amdapor Keep for example), but if you're experiencing rendering lag or network lag, the SSD can't do much.
god do I need one of those for PC, SSD would cut down my atrocious loading times I hope
All truth.I agree. Hybrid drives are at best a pain in PC's. On a PS3, I doubt it would even work. A straight SSD (SATA II or Beter) would be a better fit.

It should. You might also try running the game in fullscreen mode if you haven't already. I haven't experienced the issue myself but it seems a few people have noticed significantly decreased loading times when choosing fullscreen over windowed or borderless window.
