Do it mate, I got an SSD a few weeks back and my GOD FFXIV runs so smooth and fast now, almost no load times
Make sure its 5400RPM though or you'll over heat the PS3 and kill the machine, 7200 might be a few seconds faster but the PS3 wasnt built to cope with the extra heat they emit.

EDIT: example since I timed it, it took 1min from log-in screen (user name/password) to get to the adventure field (New Gridania) during UK Prime Time the other weekend

SSDs do not spin, there is no RPM rating. SSD speed is rated in IOPs and data rates. What you have is a good ol' standard hard drive. And the PS3/4 are more than capable of handling 7200rpm, which does not generate significantly more heat than a 5400.

Its an definately an SSD I might have got the RPM thing from if your putting a standard HDD in there.
I am not the most techy of people I'll freely admit that lol.

    LOL this made my day.

Anyways, I installed a Samsung 840 Pro 250GB SSD in my PS3 and it just wowed me. Loading times in any zones is super fast, crowded fates won't be a problem since you can see the mobs load faster with a SSD compared to a HDD. Overall I would highly recommend it. Install was very easy including the software installation.
