VII was far more broken than XIII ever was, yet it was the most successful FF game because it was most people's first FF game. Maybe it's different where I come from, I don't know, but generally "unsuccessful" and "horrible" games not only don't get sequels, but it doesn't get sequels that does better and is better design. Normally "flopped games" tend to be forgotten by a company and they try to move past it because, you know, they don't want to put out even more flopped games ontop of the same flopped game?

.No video game will ever be as successful as it was before, especially later in the series because most people seem to feel the need to constantly compare, but if you so much as compare XIV to XI for example, you get told (usually very rudely) "DO NOT COMPARE A FF GAME TO A PAST FF GAME ESPECIALLY FFXI!"

FFI? Successful, FFII? Hit/Miss, FFIII? Unheard of for many and very hit/miss, FFIV? Succesfful. FFV? Unheard of for the longest, FFVI? Successful and deemed the best, FFVII? Again, successful and deemed the best but it was also highly unfinished, broken, rushed and most people's first. So to me, it's a wonder who say XIII wasn't successful also tend to be the same people who say FFXI was a horrible and unsuccessful MMORPG
