Lots of fun, very functional, great drops, etc. Great example of FFXIV's HNM system. (Yes, this is sarcasm)

I still see the same generic "long respawn timers" concept being thrown out there every other page. Has anyone read the OP I posted (in the 1.0 thread)? None of us want the 21-24 hour spawn times. None of us was 3 hour windows.

But having a 2 hours NM, maybe a 6 hour HNM; Is that really so mind-blowingly bad to you? Is someone forcing you to camp it with us? While I completely understand that some of you don't like to even fathom camping an NM, some of us enjoyed it. What is forcing you to come out and camp with us? Notorious Monsters were an absolute staple of FFXI, and brought endless amounts of fun and content along with it. Now, was there frustration? Of course. What aspect of any MMO doesn't bring frustration? Open World content needs to be balanced with Instanced Content.

And the comment about FATE NMs... I can't really take that seriously. A quick time event, with a "notorious monster" with no drops, and no other purpose outside of EXP? It may have the name of a notorious monster, but I'll refer to that as EXP.

    Regardless, I appreciate the input.

I never played XI but I have experienced the whole go to a point and wait for "insert monster name here" and hope you get the claim on it. I hated it then and I'd probably hate it now. Being social with my FC/LS members isn't enough of a filler for me to wait on spawns, sorry. With that said I do like the ideas though.

I think there should be NM mobs from the levels 1-50 and each kill should be added to the achievement log. It would be cool of each major zone had titles, pets, and vanity stuff for x amount of kills. On top of that each one should drop something awesome for that particular level but I don't think it should be anything raid equivalent for level 50. It would be cool if some of the drops were for crafting certain things for player housing or cool pieces of gear. Possibly drop something of the DL equivalent gear wise.

Going off the contribution system in XIV if NM is implemented most, if not all, will probably be tied to the fate system but that doesn't mean SE can't make them dynamic and fun even with a large group of people. To keep with some of the claiming theme though for the people who DO enjoy that thrill whichever group gets the claim should have percentage chance to get w/e item drops. Personally I do not want to see all of them tied to a fate though. Just because I do not like spawn camping doesn't mean some of the NM shouldn't have a "fight" over a claim. Variety is the spice of life after all and people can't be afraid that everything implemented will be bot infested when it comes to the open world.

Are 'pop nm' where the nm drops an item and with that you can spawn another NM only your group can do?

Obligatory "Then go play that game," response.

But seriously, Odin and Behemoth are probably the closest you're ever going to get, so may as well deal. It's pretty obvious that square's plans for notorious monsters and similar content do not and will not extend beyond the FATE system.

Well you know there is the bounty system in place with in leves where a special monster appears that is actually only in the leve and not any where else. Like the snow leopard coeurl (I forget its real name) that spawn in leves infront of Stone vigil. I know alot of players haven't done enough leves to even see one yet but it gives a specific bonus in gil and their spawn is random as it decided when the leve is activated. In a way it is very similar to Monster Hunter were to get some of the monsters you have to do something else and have the rng spawn it.

Now what people tend to forget is the need for faux rarity. People like to collect stuff true, but people also want to feel special. Whcih is why long timers give that randomness and excitement that people love until it becomes old hat. Achievements though are hit are miss they have to be fun and doable. For instance coil is not doable yes people have made it and eventually the average player will make it there but its not a something like a HNM or a NM hunt were its random and accessible in a moments notice.

Now in 1.0 yes they were there and atm need to make the strongest weapons in the game but that too became old hat. To truely make interesting NM they would have to limit accessibilty to all to do this easiest way would be hunting seasons divide by month. So people can literally miss them and have to wait a long time because they just no longer exist in the game similar to holiday events. So pair that with leve bounty system and some achievements and some special vanity crafted gear or vanity dropped gear and you will have people out in thw wilds doing leves they never even knew existed.

I think a way to implement this is to make a system they already have in place more complicated.

As it stands now, FATES are just.... so simple. OH GUYS!!!!! BLUE CIRCLE IN THE NORTH! MOVE!!

If they found clever ways to chain FATES in different spots... made regular mobs drop pop items that spawns a new fate with a real NM in it...

Personally, the simplest and best way to do this is to just make a FATE with one of these classic NMs have a 2-5% chance to replace another face. For example... the Dodo FATE near ale port is just another zerg... maybe there is a 5% chance that instead of Gertrude popping, another Named Dodo (thinking Nekhbet from FFXII) pops that is much harder at that level, has different abilities and you know... ACTUALLY DROPS SOMETHING.

Maybe these fates need to NOT award ridiculous EXP... but maybe the gil and loot will be incentive enough

The devs have repeated themselves countless times between these forums and the beta forums that NMs in the open world won't appear outside of FATEs. Raising this topic from the grave every few months isn't going to magically make them change their minds.

People who play more, should have an advantage in a game
Being on the game more is already advantage enough. They don't need special advantages like being the only ones effectively allowed to play certain content.

Lots of fun, very functional, great drops, etc. Great example of FFXIV's HNM system.
It's funny to even call it a "system" in XI. They are just big monsters that don't spawn as often as others. That's what Behemoth and Odin are. They do have rewards, whether you tihnk they're good or not is irrelevant (Obviously there are people out there who want the rewards, otherwise nobody would rush over to participate).

But having a 2 hours NM, maybe a 6 hour HNM; Is that really so mind-blowingly bad to you? Is someone forcing you to camp it with us? While I completely understand that some of you don't like to even fathom camping an NM, some of us enjoyed it.
You did not enjoy *camping* the NM. you enjoyed fighting it and/or getting the drop, and possibly the thrill of being the one who got it over someone else- All of these things i can expect, understand and respect. The camping itself? You're lying if you thought that was fun. You cannot tell me with a straight face the mere standing in one spot and waiting part is fun. That I can not understand, expect or respect.

Notorious monsters are an "absolute staple" of this game too- the only difference is the rewards. You want more rewarding NMs? I'm all for that, by all means.

I'd also be totally happy having pop NMs, and I'd also like to have back something like the faction leves (more or less pop NMs, but the leves with special conditions control the rate it can be played and also provide a mechanic for a small group to play it and a mechanic to prevent 1000 people from jumping in)

It is obvious that multi-day + mini spawn window HNMs were not the most popular content in XI, or they would have kept making more. But they've since stopped and more or less adopted XIV's system of only having the big scary monsters within other content. Wildskeeper rieves are essentially HNM FATEs with an entry fee. (They do have better rewards though- rewards is the real problem with the NMs we currently have)

As it stands now, FATES are just.... so simple. OH GUYS!!!!! BLUE CIRCLE IN THE NORTH! MOVE!!
HNMs don't appear on the map like the other FATES- they only show up on the minimap and only if you're close by, so you basically either have to happen upon it or hear from somebody who heard someone who happened upon it.

I loved the competition around claiming NMs in 1.0. I'd love to see them brought back. My LS owns when it comes to spawn camping.
In my opinion you have a pretty silly system when the challenge is not in fighting the NM, but rather being the first one to press a button when it appears.

Which is why I made my last post.

I think there is a way to marry the two schools of thought... Make fights more varied, and sometimes restrictive, enabling rare pops, more variety, and incentive to do them outside of EXP.

...and no, we didn't use bots, just a very systematic and organized approach.
