Ignorant comment.
OP isn't talking about that. OP is talking about the ability being used and going on CD and still dying. This is purely server lag. Client side recognised you've used the ability and Server side does not, which leads to your death.
It's not server lag. What is happens is the skill gets activated, and after the animation the effect takes place (like every other skill in the game). The problem the OP is experiencing is that he or she is using it just seconds before they are about die, hence them dying before the animation has had a chance to even finish, let alone the effect taking place. Compounded with the fact that there is the animation lock, meaning you cannot activate a skill while another's animation is still happening, there's a large gap between when you'd want the effect, and when you'll get it.
Personally, this is just a play style issue at the moment. Every time I've ever needed Hallowed Ground on my PLD, it was not because I was about to die, but rather I knew a large amount of damage was incoming and rather than risk dying or getting close to death, I use the skill to negate it.
If that's the case, which I really don't believe it is, then it's really bad design, like REALLY bad if an ability can be used, CD activates, animation plays and nothing happens, then that is so insanely bad in terms how they handle abilities it blows my mind that they are trying to develop an MMO.It's not server lag. the effect delay is huge, not 0.5 or 1sec, it's 2 sec,
if someone say this is "another play style",
I would say the dev have a bad taste

I have a PLD. He's in +1, AF2. I know how it works.
Again, this just seems like Server lag. An ability going on CD should ALWAYS follow it being recognised as used by the server, not the other way around, so I have a hard time believing that it's not to do with server lag.
This is it 100% accurate statement. You blame SE but the game built on dedicated Servers that pull from All Worlds is the real problem.
There is LATENCY ISSUES that SE will blame your ISP and you will Blame SE.
The winner here is clearly the client that has a faster stronger Internet at home. If your using Wireless ... try going back to Ethernet connection. If your using Ethernet try doing a PING TEST.. Maybe your ISP is doing a throttle back during peak hours.
Never can tell with ISP and games that depend on PING times less than .05 seconds. It's never going to be fair to the average internet subscriber.
Actually it's got nothing to do with latency. Actions, damage, and effects don't carry through until the animation has either finished or overwritten by another action. I mean haven't you ever noticed how damage from Fast and Savage blade's short animation always seems pretty instant, but you never see the damage on Rage till the the 2.5 second GCD is almost up? Being Hallowed ground has a ridiculously long animation time compared to most of their other abilities it becomes very annoying for players who aren't used to this delay to anticipate when to use it, which kind of contradicts it's usage of saving yourself in a instant. Another solid few examples would be Maim and Jump and Chaos Thrust on WAR and DRG all three abilities have a reasonably long animation and damage shown is always delayed till the animation is finished or interrupted by another animation.
