So your are saying only casters will ever be allowed to have different jobs than their base class? Summoner and Scholar are the only options ever? "Tank can only be Tank" Great. Glad you aren't making the game. ^.^I feel like criticising your signature suggestions, so:
1. Gladiator is a TANK class. Dark Knight is a DAMAGE job. Your Dark Knight will only have Fast Blade, Rampart, Fight or Flight, Convalescence, Riot Blade, Tempered Will, Awareness, Sentinel, Circle of Scorn, Thunder, Surecast, Swiftcast and five Dark Knight skills. You'd also get the cross class skills of another class, which I'd imagine is Pugilist(Featherfoot, Second Wind, Haymaker, Internal Release, and Mantra). That looks patchy as a damage-dealing job to me. A lot of the buffs are obsolete because you should avoid taking damage anyway(and I left out Bulwark because you can't block without a shield). Your damage skills are Fast Blade, Riot Blade, and Circle of Scorn. Maybe three of the Dark Knight skills will be attacks. I suppose a toggle buff skill that cancelled out increased emnity (along with some other effect) would give you back Savage Blade and Rage of Halone but you've lost your shield attacks.
To further elaborate Yoshida already stated in an interview that certain jobs will alter their class a lot more than the current ones do. The example he brings up is that *if* Dark Knight was a Gladiator job it would modify some of the Gladiator base moves to better fit the role.
In all fairness I agree with Rissy that the Marauder has a better base setup for Dark Knight, just pointing out that the job system isn't planned to stay as rigid as it currently is.
Petition to lift the silly dye restrictions:

Just say NO to vanity slot restrictions:

Sorry for the necro-bump. I feel this needs to be reiterated along with Rissy's other posts on here.

Gladiator = Dark Knight (2 handed swords for Melee DPS)
Marauder = Berserker (Dual wields axes for Melee DPS)
Lancer = Templar (Lance and Shield Tank)
Puigilist = Dancer (Healer)
Archer = Ninja (Dual wields swords and has a stealth ability)
Thaumaturge = Red Mage (Melee DPS using 1 handed swords and both black and white spells)
Conjurer = Necromancer (Ranged DPS using undead minions)
Arcanist = Already has a healer and DPS Job.
This would add an additional healer and tank job to the mix and also give the other classes something different to do. The current tank (GLD, MRD) and healer (WM, SCH) classes would have a DPS job and the current ranged DPS classes get a Melee DPS job. Mean while, the two current melee classes get a tank and healing job.
Current count:
Tank = 2
Healer = 2
Melee DPS = 2
Ranged DPS = 3
With the new jobs:
Tank = 3
Healer = 3
Melee DPS = 6
Ranged DPS = 4
That's a lot of melee DPS, but at least each class gets two completely different jobs.

Gathering class idea: Garbage Collector. Your AF gear is a yellow jumpsuit and your blue main hand is a broom, the off hand is a garbage bag. The class quests involve cleaning up after people who have discarded unneeded equipment once they get their relic/DL/Allagan gear.
I'm noticing that a lot of people don't really seem to get the whole concept of the armory system.
Your weapon defines your class. If you equip a different weapon, you change your class. A Marauder can't still be a Marauder if it trades out the axe for a katana. The Dark Knight probably can't go without a shield, as the Gladiator base class has several abilities that require the presence of a shield. The Enchanter can't use books of the Arcanist is already using books. Pugilist use hand-to-hand combat; they don't dual-wield daggers.
If you want a job that uses a specific weapon, it has to come from a class that uses that specific weapon.
I've said this many times before, just give me Ninja(DPS cause I will NOT sub it again for blink)and BST(preferably dual wield)and I will be satisfied. Also allow BST to tame monsters permanently(at least until they enter a main city)instead of putting them on a timer.
