Alot of these options go against the armoury system SE has in place.

You cant have an additional job use a different weapon from the class since the class is the main part of the job.

Take Summoner and Scholar for example, they both use the same weapon since they are both part of the same class.

This is what I thought up before.*http://imgur.com/a/fPpXO#0 Class/Job list

the idea of the DD in heavy armor is always not a good idea, for counter balance the high defense they generally need to reduce the damage.
that said, a dark knight in the FF series never use a shield, is not a class oriented on the defense, but more on the damage and the crippling of the enemy. FFT is a bad example, since you was able to put a shield on a lot of class, shield was not bound to class.

another point about the tank in the game, i often see people say, we need an evade tank or a parry tank. it will not be really different from the Warrior. indeed warrior steal life, but it mains defense are evade and parry... and we see what happend right now.
    i see more something like:
    - a tank buffing himself by hitting monster and gettting mitigation from it.
    - a tank that cripples the monster and make it hit less or with less power the tank.

Dark Knight Cecil Harvey in FF IV did, but mainly to protect himself. He and Leon from FF II were pretty much the only ones that did/could, unless you also want to count the FF III remake Dark Knight job that can also use shields.

Coming from Pugilist it could get Second wind to restore any damage it DOES take. In theory you could not need a healer at all in pre endgame dungeons with a ninja tank.
Ninja as a tank is game breaking. Why invite a PLD or WAR who takes any damage at all when you can invite a Ninja that uses utsusemi to evade ALL damage. It's a no brainer to see that PLD and WAR would then become obsolete. (Not that the community hasn't already condemned WAR as being totally obsolete anyways)

I'd just like an agile tank class. Paladin is a little too plain, and Marauder while fun isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Of course no matter what class I'd suggest to be an agile tank someone's going to blurt out "ZOMG NO! Must be DPS!". Some of the future classes will have to be for tanking. Mind learning to share you greedy DPS fanatics?

I was thinking about the Gold Saucer expansion... How about a Gambit/Card Master Class?

This class would use a deck of cards for his weapon, and use abilities such as Dice, Slots, Gil Toss etc, and could be used as a buffing synergist kind of role. He could have Darts for a ranged attack.

This class's guild would be found in the Gold Saucer, and could progress to an Illusionist (Name WIP) job, using smoke and mirrors for deception and buffs.

It could be a sub class for the musketeer to give the Corsair job. And the guild could be on an airship casino, as a nod to Setzer, but not a direct reference!

Also, Dark Knights are supposed to damage their own HP for strong attacks, they can have some HP leeching, but their signature attacks have to DAMAGE their health. For that reason, if any existing class deserves Dark Knight, it's definitely Marauder, since they already have high HP, high potency attacks, and a lot of attacks that recover a bit of HP, preparing them well for wrist-cutting attacks. I could live with an Axe Dark Knight.

    2. Samurai should really be a tank because it fit their image better and we could do with more tanks. In Final Fantasy they have had high damage skills, but they were generally costly or all or nothing. Meanwhile Samurai characters get high HP, wear Heavy Armor and are generally evasive. Shirahadori is a chance to block a physical attack in FF5 and pretty much anti-physical attack in FFT.

I guess Marauder has some skills that suit a Samurai, but an axe class suddenly using a sword is kind of jarring, and a Samurai should be tanking, not attacking from behind or the side dishonorably like the rest of the melee damage dealers.

    3. I guess I can see a tank lancer job, and kind of support it. There are some complications though. Lancers use a two-handed style, so having a shield would mess with Lancer skill animations. That said, they could probably get away with heavy armguards or bucklers strapped to their forearm. They'll also need some increased emnity buff and to somehow deal with the lack of Enhanced Vitality traits (Arcanist at least has Maim and Mend to deal with lack of Enhanced Mind for Scholars).

    4. NO. Ninja are not tanks. Just because FFXI fails at class design and let people use a class the wrong way, doesn't mean FFXIV has to copy it. Ninja are assassins and spies. They're supposed to be evasive damage dealers. How are Pugilist in anyway prepared to suddenly be tanks anyway? A lot of their skills are positional, I know I'd LOVE a tank that turns the mob/boss with the big frontal AOE around in circles instead of against a wall. Pugilist is squishy anyway and you can't make a class evasive to the point where they barely receive damage. I suppose Pugilist base class isn't so bad for a DD Ninja functionally, but those are definitely fist attack animations, not dagger/knife wielding animations. I'd rather see Ninja branch of the same unintroduced scout class that Thief branches off, with Ninja getting some debuff spells like FFTA and getting slightly better weapons than Thief. Ninja's Image skill/spell shouldn't be much more useful than Black Mage's Manawall.

Sorry for the necro-bump. I feel this needs to be reiterated along with Rissy's other posts on here.
